    Default $3 rebuy discussion

Im psoting this to discuss my, and other peoples endaevors at the $3 rebuy on stars. Since alot of people enjoy playing these fro the experience and serious money at the end i think this could be a good thread. Anyways i went into this one with a new style I thought up, and it worked fairly well. Since my Bankrolls just over $200 the run and gun with a massive amount of rebuys isnt the smartest way for me. I decided that in the rebuy hour I would deliberate every hand and use up as much of my clock as possible. Sure, it pissed a couple people off, but your given that time for a reason. Anyways I effectively reduced the # of hands to 43 in the first hour, and doubled up with AA vs KK, having ~3300 after that time. I added on and had about half the avg stack. I wasnt concerned with that though since the blinds were only 100/200 i think. Anyways the 2nd hour I picked up AQ and flopped A K Q and was called all in by AJ and doged a 10. I stole a few blinds and ended up with around 9000 after the second hour. The third (and final) hour i was doign very well, made a nice resteal and some well placed blind steals to get around 14K in chips. At that time i was around 400th out of 500 with the money starting at 297. Then i self destructed. I called an 1800 raise on the BB for 1200 more, with K7 diamonds, having a caller so the pot odds were nice. Flop came A Q x, the first guy bet out 800 and i called, thrid guy folded. next card was a 6, making 3 clubs on the board. The guy bet 1200 and i raised to 3000, got called, river another club and i pushed and was called by A8. I was upset for a few minutes since i beleive that the hand souhldve been mine.

I do fine in rebuys just playing tight first hour... not using all my time because I would get too bored doing that.
Why dont you just rebuy right away and then play tight until first break where you then addon.

Learn how to use the Enter key. That gives me a headache.

I didn't read it, but there is a MTT sticky about rebuys that may answer your question, whatever it is:

Succeed at something once, and you might be lucky.

Succeed at something ten times, and you might be on to something.

Succeed at something 100 times, and you might have a strategy.

How is taking up all the time and lowering the amount of hands played in the rebuy hour an advantage for you? Because the blinds are so low, having to fold a lot of hands isn't really going to put a dent in your stack.

People usually play lose in the rebuy hour so wouldn't you want to get in a lot of hands to give yourself more chances of picking up mosters and stacking people?

How can a stratagy that leaves you with half the average stack coming out of the rebuy be optimal?

learning to play poker would be an optimal strategy

for help, read lots of posts in the MTT section.
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?

also, wouldn't slowing down the tables play just hurt you, and everyone else at the table?

    Less hands =
    Less money being bet =
    less re-buys =
less money on the table =
average stack on the table is low =
bad for everyone once the table is broken

Although my strat calls for more of a maniac style the rebuy hour to get a big big stack, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with playing your general tight style the first hour.

However, no matter what your style, it is a BAD BAD idea to slow things down that first hour. You want to see as many hands as possible so that when you do finally get a hand you can actually double up.

Also, if you are not willing to play the maniac style (which is fine), you also REALLY NEED to rebuy immediately when the tourney begins so that when you do go all-in that first hour your double up will take you to 6k not just to 3k.

In online tourneys you don't get dealt that many hands before making the FT so you really need to take advantage of every opportunity you have to double up. By not rebuying, you are effectively throwing away one of those double-up opportunities. Although not guaranteed, in your case, instead of having 14k during that third hour, you most likely would have had a stack more like 25-30k if you had rebought immediately which would have given you more wiggle room to use your stack to push people around and also to make mistakes and still be alive.
