    Default Good Pot Odds Explanation

Hi All, first post. This is a great site with a lot of info. I just started playing seriously about 2 months ago. Mostly in games with friends, and online in play-money games getting my feet wet. Reading a lot (1/2 way through Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players) and just ordered Vol's 1&2 of HOH.

Now that introductions are done, here's the point of my post! I have been looking around for good info on pot odds calculations and came accross this one:

    http://www.cardplayer.com/poker_maga...es/?a_id=13913

It has an explanation of pot odds and a few ways to to do quick math. As well as a helpful chart much like the one here on FTR.

The thing I found most interesting that I hadn't seen elsewhere is a further explanation of the 4/2 rule. I guess that only works for 1-8 outs. So there are other rules for higher outs. Read it if you haven't already.

    Thanks!

All you really need to know are the common draw odds. After a while theres not much need to calculate.

    Just know:

    4 outs (inside straight)
6 outs (AK with a missed flop)
8 outs (open or double inside straight)
    9 outs (flush)

and if you have overcards to the board you can sometimes count those as outs too.

I don't typically bother calculating if I have at least 13 outs, at least in NL, because the implied odds typically make it a good call.

    Welcome to FTR.

also, remember you have a 12.5% of flopping a set or better off of a pocket pair. This is a very important number to remember.
