Can't seem to beat $50 n/l

I dunno what it is but the second time I moved up to $50 no limit I was unsuccessful, last night and today I lost a total of 3 hondo. I do great at $25 n/l but why not at 50. Has anyone had trouble making this transition??? It seems like everyone just camps out for sets. Today there have been numerous times where I lost set over set. Is it just variance???
I haven't had a bad swing like this since the last time i moved up a limit.

when i was switching from 50 to 100 nl i continually got slammed. Eventually, i got a slightly bigger br to handle it, and started off lucky (I pushed KK preflop into AA and sucked out), and from then on I did fine. I think its probably more bad luck/playing scared/not being used to the greater $$ amounts being thrown around than anything else.

I do ok at 25NL, but I've done great at 50NL. Maybe the people I'm playing against think of their chips as money at 50NL and played scared?

I made a few forays into NL50 and NL100 and although I probably played about the same way I found myself eventually getting killed as well.It's tough moving up.

well tonite I made my 3 hondo back playing 4 $25 n/l tables in a 2 hour span. I've rearranged my strategy these past couple of days and I've been able to get some big pots. When I try $50 n/l again i hope it'll work.

I've been prone to some swings lately at $50, too. A couple basic tips:
- manage and exploit your image. Players are slightly more aware and you must keep them guessing while scooping up pots. E.g., appear like a tight nut camper, but look for opportunities to steal pots.
- play fewer tables and really concentrate on cracking the $50NL player profile
- generally bet harder when you think you are ahead (no 1/3 - 1/3 sized bets unless you want to build the pot). Bet 2/3-pot to force opponents into making harder decisions.
- get position on big stacks, and play late position in hands. IMO, this is the key to leveraging the other tips above, and keeping yourself out of trouble initially.
- Finally, I notice a pretty big difference between the skill level on weekends vs weekdays. $50NL can be a total grind on M-W nights when I play, while Th-Sat it's more wide open.

Or turn up the gears and create some table image for yourself, play some real poker instead of cards. You can find the fish, but you can also take advantage of a rocky situation. Poker is about adaptation to a table.

If everyone camps for sets then take the pots where they dont have a much of anything. Doyle's way of playing, lots of c-betting, positional raises, occasional 2nd barrels, playing back at checkraisers if you have decent pot equity (it means strong hands AND good drawing hands like OESD's or combo draws - they will be scared to checkraise your c-bets without a really strong hand). Sometimes you slow down and check down a moderate hand in order to cool them off. That way of playing will turn them into weak-tights or loose passives and you can drain with folding equity or value depending on their reaction to your aggressive play. It won't take a long time before one of them make some stupid calldown (when betting gets really steep) and pay you off.

Just classic Super System play.

where most people go wrong coming out of 25 NL is playing that same level of tightness at 50 NL, and you damn sure don't beat tight players by playing tighter.

well so far so good. I've restructured my strategy for $50 no limit and its been working great. I've been able to take down nice pots and haven't been getting caught. I only played one table but I felt like i had complete control of it.

Lets keep one thing in mind we normally move up after we have padded are BR and have been winning. It may just be that luck is on the downside for you. I remember the second hand I played going from 50Nl to 100Nl (which honestly took me 3 shots before I was comfortable enough to stay there.) I had Pocket 5’s called a small raise. Hit my set of 5’s, my opponent put me all in. He turned over Kings. The turn was a king. After about 5 more bad beats like this I went back to the 50Nl table. Problem, My BR was not big enough for the 100NL. I had been so hot for so long and the time had come for me to lose. No matter how well I played. I strongly suggest you do not move up to the 50NL until your BR is at 1200 dollars. If it goes down below a 1000, go back down to the 25NL and build it back up to 1200 dollars. This should give you a nice comfort level.

Thats exactly how I play my BR and being comefortable is a big part of playing well; what was your 'roll for $100, £3000?

Im with saywhat2, I wanted $1500 before moving to NL50 and will wait untill over 3k before hitting NL100, especially as I've only just moved from 10man to 6max so need to play a good 20-50k hands here (only 4k played so far) to help me feel comfy and confident in my game.

The first time I gave 100 NL a shot my BR was only at 1200. And after a few real bad beats in just a couple of days it was at 700 and dropping. I moved back down to 50NL. I stayed there this time until I got my BR up to 2500. ( Advice I received from Paul Wolfe on FT). Again I took some real bad beats and was down around 2100. The difference this time was I knew I was playing good. And I was not playing scared. (AS I was earlier) I was convinced that it was just the fall of the cards. I built My BR up to 3000 and said if it goes below 2500 I will bring it back up to 3000. I have never looked back since that day. My rule is don't move up until I have 30 times the full buy in. And when I dip below 25 times the full buy in I move down a level and build back up. Another thing I do is work on a moth to month basis. I only cashout 40% of a profit in a given month. This helps the BR grow
