I don't like the preflop raise. Why not wait for something with potential instead of pure trash?

Flop is an easy call, TP/overpair would check-call or checkraise + odds are nice (~30%).

    Rippy,

I'm being very respectful when I ask this. These sick reads and suckout hands that you post are great, but how often does this blow up in your face?

nh sir, although I'd like to be the first one to point out that you ultimately put your whole stack on the line to protect your BB (in a cash game).

Its easy for him to have an over pair to that board.

not if hes raised 5 pots in a row. If hes essentially raising with any 2 cards, what makes you think he will have a pair now? I think there are pretty good odds that he doesnt given his play.

Doesn't anyone else ride close edges like this? I see nothing wrong with this if his read was right. I do this kind of thing now and then, and I don't regret it. I've called off my whole stack with 22 on a J78 board just because I knew the opponent wiffed. It isn't a leak. It's a decision. It's a decision that Math doesn't like maybe, but you can't always rely on math.

Every time rip posts, people start slamming him. Have you never flopped bottom pair and gone deep with it because it was correct? These opportunities are there if your reads are tight enough. Especially against aggressive douches. Don't get me wrong. These situations rarely crop up, but you should make the right decision when they do. I don't find myself going deep with less than top pair often, but sometimes the situation just calls for it.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?

If there was ever a time I would go deep with a pair of 3s, I would want it to be:
Against an opponent I had a good read on.
Against an opponent that had raised the last 5 hands.
    Against a single opponent.
Against an opponent that I “knew” missed the flop totally.

Looks like a great place to go with my gut.

I can count on one hand the times I have done this but this looks like a perfect place for it.

The call on the flop was just straight up balls...I knew I was right.
BS. Balls got nothing to do with it.

It might be +EV though (depending on reads). In that case: nh!

Didn't anyone read the title of the thread? Rippy made a play based on a read. You can "what if" all you want, but that wasn't the point of the thread. I find it funny that I'll see people say that "real" poker isn't even about the cards and then in their next post they'll make comments about someone's play that are based solely on the cards they see.

I posted this exact hand in my blog and I didn't get any comments on how my play was -EV or that I was a maniac. It's quite possibly because no one reads my blog, but I bet if the same hand was posted by Ripp he would get a bunch of comments on how he was spewing chips. Give the guy a break. He posts hands that aren't the typical "How do I get the most value out of a set" or "I have AA, the flop comes 4s,7d,Jd and someone went AI. What do I do?!?" It would be nice to see more people posts hands like he does.

Unconventional hand are among the most enjoyable for me to read. Unfortunately, it is often difficult to put the full extent of your reads into words so the way you play a hand is often unappreciated by the reader. Just because you, the reader, doesn't understand why a play was made doesn't mean it was incorrect.

    Ummm.... no fucking way.

$14ish pot with another $14ish behind, LAggy opponent throwing a party, cash game. Rippy can't fold any piece of this board. I insta-call with AK/AQ unimproved.

    My 2 chips:
Rippy picked an almost senseless spot to fight back at the table bully, but made the most of it by not fucking it up post-flop.

    PF ok, flop a must-call.

Rippy with all respect this stuff has nothing to do with strategy, this is just bragging. I know you love posting your crazy hands and ballsy calls but I have not seen a solid hands from you for ages.. You are a good player and you should post some thoughtful strategy related stuff as well. But I am hoping that your poker venue is doing good and you are not just "rolling the dice" at stakes too high after you get some money from lower stakes.

I too have made ballsy calls based solely on reads i.e. limped AQ0 for $4 and called an AI PF for over $400 because I had a read that I was most likely ahead but there is no reason for me to post that stuff.

    Well.
Opp raises A5 and get reraised. So his preflop is donk. We all know he missed that flop. Nice read and call, but we all know it. Such a marginal situation!
I agree with pingviini though rippy. We all know you can play so start churning out some everyday stuff to go along with these plays.

I'd like to see some PT data from Rippy.. Would be fun to see for a weak-tight nit like me

Rip, would it be easy to tilt you with a well timed gear shift? I mean I hope not, but it just seems like someone could throw a ghost at you (reverse read) and break off a chunk.

Well serves him right for raising 4 times in a row. It seems like you got all uppity preflop after seeing him do this, and then got lucky catching a piece of the flop. He got all uppity because you raised him back and thought that maybe his ace was still good.

He too had a lot of balls to continue with he hand the way he he did, and A5 is still a good raising hand against a random BB. But giving his willingness to give action, I wouldn't play that kind of trash preflop against him again.
