    Default NL O8

    I'm pretty new to this game, but at first glance it seems to be very soft. Anyways, I'm having trouble understanding how lo hands are ranked. Could someone please explain to me why 3-4-5-6-7 beats A-3-4-6-7?

    LOL... 3-4-5-6-7 is a straight...any five cards in sequencial order is a straight..no matter if its low or high cards. Following are the hand ranks..
    1) A-K-Q-J-10 (Suited)= Royal Flush
    2) 5-6-7-8-9-10 (Suited)=Straight Flush (any 5 siuted sequencial cards)
    3)8-8-8-8-A =Four of a kind
    4)6-6-6-J-J=Full House
    5)6-4-8-7-10 (Suited)=Flush
    6)2-3-4-5-6=Straight (unsuited)
    7)9-9-9-A-J+3 of a kind
    8)5-5-8-8-A=Two Pair
    9)2-4-6-10-10=1Pair
    10) 6-7-8-9-A= High Card

    This is the han rankings in order, #1 being the top hand, everything else going down in order of rank....Hope this helps.....

    I believe he was referring to why 34567 beats A3467 in terms of the LOW hand.

    I think this is because when evaluating the low hand you have to start comparing from the high end. I'm not entirely sure though.

    Because A can be either the highest card in the deck or the lowest.

    In A2345, the A is acting as the lowest card so this straight is describes as being 'five high'.

    The 34567 straight is 'seven high' and since 7 > 5 the seven high straight wins.

    The highest straight possible is AKQJT. In this straight the A is acting in its highest card capacity. This straight is called the 'Ace high straight' among other things.

    think about low hands like this
    5 digit numbers starting with the highest card as ten thousands digit.

    A 4 5 6 8 = 8 6 5 4 A
    2 3 4 6 7 = 7 6 4 3 2

    76,432 is a lower number than 86,541 so 7 6 4 3 2 is a the better low hand

    A4 6 7 8
    2 4 6 7 8

    87462 > 87461 so 8 7 4 6 1 is the better low hand.

    okay....

    34567 = 76,543
    A3467 = 76,431
    76,431 < 76,543

    s0 you're saying the straight is a loser?

    No, the straight gets half the pot for HI: straight three to seven and the A hand gets half the pot for LO: 7643A

    3-4-5-6-7 doesn't beat 7-6-4-3-A for the low unless you're playing an O8 game in which the A isn't counted as a low card

    I was just referring to the LO. Thanks for putting the issue to rest though. For some reason my opponent scooped the pot with his 34567.. so I guess I forgot to use 2 of my hole cards or something.

    If you could find that Hand History that would be even more helpful
