Having a hard time finding the book that suits me

Being somewhat new to NLHE, I am pretty intimidated of the amount of books there are about the game. I obviously just want to learn more about the game .

I usually play in small games (4-8 people) with $10 or $15 buyins. Being an unexperienced player I play pretty tight. I have been playing good but I often find my stash dwindling because I just dont get the cards. Therefore I rarely seem to make a profit. IDK if I should stick to this strategy or I should try to mix my game up. If there are books specializing on small games, I would love to know of them. If you have any suggestions feel free to let me know.

As far as I know, there are no books that specifically focus on short-handed hold 'em games. However, there is a wealth of information on the internet if you were to google "short-handed hold 'em strategy" or something similar.

Is your game a ring game or tourney style? Depending on what kind of home game you play in, that changes possible suggestions as far as reading goes. Picking up a copy of Theory of Poker by David Skylansky never hurt anyone though.

Read everything you can about the game and take bits and pieces of everything you read to help mold your overall game. There isn't one book that is going to be the end-all, be-all for you.

Harrington on Hold em is definetly worth reading, especially if you're a tournament player. Its also a very beginner friendly book and easy to read.

The way you describe it, you seem to be tight weak beginner. I see no reason to play short handed. Just play full ring, people still pay you off nearly as much at these low levels and you will pay a lot less blinds. Short handed play is a not good way to start out.

Full ring will make it less costly to wait for your cards, and at 10 NL there will still be plenty of fish to call you.

When you arnt getting hands in a tourney style game you need to use positional play to take the blinds often enough to sustain your stack untill you get a real hand to play.

Raising preflop from the button/SB wheneveryone folds to you will help to maintain a stack. You have to mix it up tho.

Its hard because I usually play in somewhat small games, just last week I played in a 5 person game, 2 of them going out within a couple hours, therefore leaving me play with 2 better players and me paying blinds 2 out of 3 hands. Another problem I run into, is that I am consistently playing with the same 10 or 12 guys. I can read them alot better than when I started but, they can read me just as well if not better.
