hi, could someone explain what a continuation bet is and what its good for?...sorry if this is a dumb question!

When you bet at a flop following your pre-flop raise, whether or not you have hit the flop. It's pretty standard, but best to only continuation bet against one or two opponents. The size of your bet should be the same as if you had hit the flop, none of this 1/4 pot nonsense. |

thanks! thats kind of what I thought it was. I've tried this but quite often people seem to call the post flop bet. Does this usually mean they've hit something on the flop, or do they just assume you've put in a continuation bet and hit nothing?...so should you check the turn assuming they've hit something or keep betting?... |

As said above you have to be carefull who you contuination bet against. Doing it against the wrong player is expensive. | |
