When can I leave??

Hello all,

What are the unwritten rules about leaving a table? How soon is too soon?

If you just hit a couple of big pots is it rude to leave?

I will be playing in the next few weeks and will probably only have time for a 2 hour or so session.

What are the unwritten rules about leaving a table?

Usually most players grab a rack, load their chips and play to the button or blinds. It is polite to annouce a few hands in advance of leaving, even if you fold everything blind.

Hitting a couple big pots and leaving *IS* rude, however, you are completely entitled to do so. Players may give you dirty looks or scoff in your direction, but you still won in accordance with the rules of the table. You may have caught pocket aces for the only 3 hands you played, or you sucked out hard for an entire orbit. Doesn't matter. It's your money, you wagered, you won, and now you choose to leave. Some players feel obligated to play out their blinds to "give back to the table" a bit, but I personally don't. I wait to see/fold my UTG cards, then bolt.

Announcing you are leaving the table is akin to using your turn signal on the roads. You should, but not everyone does. The only person it helps to tell that you're picking up is the dealer so they don't accidentally deal you in. But still, you can bust out in mid-position without saying a word and life will go on.

Leave whenever the hell you damn well please.

I'm assuming you mean if you are a tourist in for a quick hit at the card room. If that is the case, leave whenever you want and it is NEVER rude.

In a game with friends or regulars there may be some unwritten rules to when you can leave, or if you want to get invited back to a private game you may want to be more discrete about winning a monster pot and leaving.

All I can remember is after a 7 hour session at foxwoods I was the massive chipstack at the table (I had over twice the amount of chips of the second highest) and when I left the table got mad, acting as if I should stay to give back some of my money.

I announced I was leaving in a few hands and was asked to stay for one last hand... so to be nice, I played it blind. After some major action on the turn, I looked at my cards and saw I hit two pair... and someone else had a lower two pair. Fun and the table was pissed, but who cares. It was 5:30am. I had to go to class

But to answer your question, its rude, but its your moeny and do you as you please. One of my buddies at foxwoods was up 250 after 20 minutes on three lucky hands and left. He was bored waiting for us to leave 5 hours later, but he wasn't confident in his skills and that's fine. You're still going to be allowed to play at the casino whenever you want

In a regular home game, its much different. If you violate the rules or bounce after a few hands, you can probably expect to not be invited back
