    Default Where to start?

    G'day everyone!

Been floating around here for around a month now, but I'm finally breaking my hymen with my virgin post

Anyway, the main reason I havn't really posted is because I havn't been playing real money online yet (only home games), but I've finally gotten myself a VISA card so that I can start playing. I currently only use party poker and was just wondering if $25NL is an OK starting point?

I'm willing to put in around $200-$300 to start with and have been playing poker for around 2-3months now (mostly home games and play money). I always finish ITM at home games (currently 14 wins; next best is my mate with 5 wins; which may just mean everyone I play with sucks) so while I do count myself a beginner, I'm not at the bottom of the pile so to speak.

I'd like to stick to party poker to start with because it's familiar...

You probably dont have enough of a bankroll to play at 25nl with even $300, but i only say this if your quite new to the game. But i suppose so long as you deposit $300 with is 12 buy ins at 25nl you MIGHT get away with it. Really if you deposit $200 and play 10nl and check out your game then this is the best situation. For that you have 20 buy ins (a good solid amount) and if you struggle to start with it wont hurt you too badly.
I'd take the safe option to start with and if you find you are making the profit at 10nl then i'd probably boost up the bankroll with that extra cash and move upto 25nl
    Hope i helped.
(if you havent read 'rilla's sticky on this forum about bankroll management please do, if you have then good onya! )

Yep, been reading pretty much everything on FTR, its really helped me improve. I can't believe how many shit hands I was playing when I first started thinking they were good!

The only thing I'm worried about with micro limit tables is that everyone says there are too many people that enter pots even if raised heaps PF. Is this a problem if I play TAG?

Putney, UK; Full Tilt,Mansion; $50 NL and PL; $13 and $16 SNGs at Stars
I started* at £25NL with £50**, had to reload after 2 sessions, then got up to £260 before falling all the way back down to £7. Am now back at £330 and hopefully I won't be staring into the abyss again, but it does go to show what you can expect with variance.

*that is, I started playing ring games after a couple of months playing $5 SNGs

**though I was fully prepared to invest more if and when I needed to, so it wasn't a "true" bankroll

It is true that there are many poor poor players at the low limits who dont understand that Ax sucks balls etc. But, this is how you make money! If your game is tagg, and from experience you learn when your hands are beaten you should get along fine. Yes there are some suckouts but if you put these poor players all in on draws or make them play for stupid pot odds it will benefit you in the long run. Not just over the next few weeks but over the time it takes to build a 'roll. If you start out on the right foot so to speak you will develop the discipline to go with it. SO although 10nl might suck, if you deposit 200 and play till you can buy in to 25nl (id try that when i got to 300 say, it wont take long!) then you should be ok. Just remember bad players pay you there money if your nice and tagg.

Your bankroll isn't a recommended size for 25NL, but there are several rooms that offer smaller tables. PokerStars, Pacific, Paradise, Absolute. You might not stay st these places very long, or you may become attached to your "first love."
The bonus money available may or may not be important to you. If bonus money appeals to you, make sure you don't quander a good signup bonus with a too-small deposit (like at Party -- recommend $500)
    I'm a know-it-all.

    No, really.
