    Default Connection Query

    Hi Guys,

I know this isn't technically a T.H.E starter question, but it sounds like you are the best people to ask....

I only have a 56k connection currently (stop laughing) and i wondered if that would hinder me playing Online poker?

are there any sites that are better for slow connections etc or does it not really matter?

Im quite a newbie to the world of Texas hold 'em, in fact i've only played my first "live" game this weekend with 4 of my mates, we only played £5 buy in, no limit, 10p / 20p blinds and i still ended up losing £10!!! ha ha

Anyway, any advice will be very greatfully received.....

Should be fine, don't expect to be able to multitable without serious lag though.

Also don't cry when you miss aces when you get disconnected.

ha ha yeah, good point, i hadn't thought of that actually.....
Im getting Broadband in a few months anyway so i'll probably just wait till then.....i'll also make sure not to sign up with this name or else you buggers will come fishing! ha ha

Poker really shouldn’t take much bandwidth but the reliability of the connection is an issue. If you rarely get disconnected then play with confidence.

I have broadband, but I can see multitabling being a problem. Also, if you use PT plus GT or PV, your computer may not keep up.

    Ignore them =P

I 8 table on dialup with no lag at all.

    Poker is VERY low bandwith...

However, disable call waiting, and try to only play where you have disconnect protection.

    Hu?

There is Zero correlation in connection speed and ability for his computer to keep up...

Does PV connect to an outside database like pokeredge does?

I have no idea, not sure what PV is, I know that GT and PT would have no affect

nice, cheers for the responses.....i have no idea what PT or PV or the others are by the way, i assume they are specific sites??

I have no intention of mulitabling just yet either, i think i'll concentrate on 1 table at a time until i've either doubled my Bankroll, or lost the flamin lot.

    PT = Poker Tracker ...

I strongly suggest buying it and a book called "small stakes holdem" asap.

Basically, Poker Tracker keeps track of every single have you have ever played.

Being able to go back and replay hands and look for things you did wrong is a huge help (you can even replay them move by move)

being able to look and see that hands like KJs/KJo really are bad hands is a huge help (overall, KJs/KJo are -.01 BB's a hand for me .. they really are not worth playing.)

i played on party poker on dialup not long ago, no connection problems, but it did slow down/break my connection when i loaded websites, but it honestly was a really crappy dialup connection, and I think i was four tabling. just don't download next door nikki or anything while you're playing.
