    Default Pocket pair raising

Ok ive posted this here to see if i can get some banter going on this.

How do you guys play (and recommend playing pocket pairs) in cash games only. Forget mtts and tourney play im talking playing for cash.

Personally if im holding anything less than pocket tens i want to see a flop. Ill call any raise upto 4xbb (5xbb sounds an awful lot with a pp) and i dump them if i dont have an overpair or a set unless i can see cards for a real cheap price, and i guess im not losing. With anything pocket tens or higher im coming in behind a 4 or 5bb raise.

Im asking this because recently ive seen a new trend (seems new to me anyway at my site) of raising preflop with a pocket pair then hammering the flop regardless of it being high or low. Ive caught one of two out with AQ and AK by catching overcards and feeling them out or just literally calling one or two down when ive decided i dont like the way there trying to buy pots (not great play i know but ive got most of them labelled now)
Thus i guess im asking what you guys think of such play. I wouldnt do it even in the case of mixing it up, gona get stung too many times. And im developing a pretty lagg style too but that seems slightly too aggressive outside mtt play.
    Comments?

Yeah, but i'll call one raise to try to get in cheap 'cause chances are someone will flop overpair, but if you flop a set they'll never know what hit them...

... but then again i'm still learning.

but would you consider rasing with a pp samller than 9s In or out of position preflop?
Lets say from ep or if ur mp/lp without the pot being raised before you.

p.s i had AA and raised 3xbb from sb and got rerasied over the top by pocket 3s. Of course i destacked this idiot but wtf? pocket 3s?

If I had , lets say 88 in LP with all limpers in a cash game, I love to raise there. See how much they really like their hands. Then rep that you hit the flop. I think that is standard aggressive type play. I've made some good money doing that.

Early/mid I like the limp for the set method.

Yeah thats the standard sorta stuff id think about. using position to represent a big hand.
But, you wouldnt consider (outside mtt play) a 4xbb raise from ep/mp with pocket 4s would you? or evn a push over the top of a lp/mp raise?
Even at the lower/micro limit cash tables this is super aggro play?
I accept that you may be able to buy some pots but it seems excessive.

Or is just that some super noobs have doubled up recently and are trying their luck at a better level

Assuming full ring, I wouldn't raise 44 in EP. You might get re-raised and be forced to fold, and even if they just call small pockets are hard to play out of position. Limp and set (or fold). Pushing over a raise with a small pocket is just silly, you can't expect to be called by a smaller pair, but you'll often get called by bigger pairs or AK/AQ.

I've played against players that do that. Great targets for check-raising when you hit the flop.

I leave raising low pocket pairs in EP for the fi$h. Big time -EV play. Hell raising low PP in any position is -EV imo.

They're pretty good for LP steals though. At least, that's one of the few times I raise 22

lots of people are watching too much tv poker and think it's all about racing off pocket pairs versus AK, even in ring games. that is probably what you are experiencing. as they say on CNBC... "profit from it."
