Dis,
NL holdem is a game you can get "money making" good at in very short order. However, it's also a game where - if you aren't careful - your best days end up behind you, not in front of you. Alot of times people get good results early with below average to poor play, and then spend alot of years chasing the results they had before without improving their game. So, enjoy. It isn't a particularly hard game if you love learning and playing it - mainly learning. And you have the right mentality to get better over time and not become one of these perma-tilt players who can't play but get paid off just often enough from bad play to think they're good.
Here's a short list of areas to watch and improve:
1. Your game - based on type of play (limit or NL, MTT, SnG, Ring), stakes, sites, competition, etc. They all make a difference.
2. Your Thinking - how you handle wins, losses, money, pressure, bankroll management, yourself, your ego, etc.
3. Improving your results for your game - this means looking at different sites, etc. Some will be better for your game than others. Play players you can beat. The idea that "I want to play the best players so I can improve faster" is not something I agree with. You can improve faster by seeing (and making money off) bad play (in my opinion) than by getting your ass kicked by pro's and then going "what happened?" Did you learn something? Yea! Change sites! lol
You have a leg up on your european counterparts by being here and reading up. Remember my advice to play players you can beat? I love playing NL ring with europeans. I don't know why most of them play the way they do, but please God don't let them stop!
Enjoy and welcome to FTR.
