The beginning of my downfall - I really think this guy was getting sick of me. I thought the check raise on the flop would make him fold, but now I don't think it was strong enough - I shoulda raised to like 1600. I'm very wishy washy on whether my 2s were actually good - I was very very tempted to push his turn reraise.

Next hand is my last hand I shoulda called and pushed the flop, don't know why I went for the coin toss preflop (guess I was mini-tilting because I knew the 1,000 bet had AT-AQ and was gonna call my reraise preflop - this guy was bad enough that I think he woulda called that flop anyways but... I woulda felt better.

Man I think I'd enjoy playing against you. You always try to put people on tilt or did you just not get enough hugs as a child?

Lesson learned - no reason to piss your chips away just cuz you took one minor hit. I very well might have lost in the exact same spot even if I had played like I wanted, but then it wouldn't have been on me - it woulda been a bad call on the guy who had AQ. My best hand all tourney had been either an 88 or an AQ (you decide which one you like better) and yet I was still meeting my chip goals. The waste was the fact, that I think I easily could have made the final 5 here and didn't. 3 hours of good play can easily go poof in 2 minutes of ok/poor play - that's the lesson learned.

That table was letting you steal your way up. That's pretty much every tourny on Empire that I've been ITM in. Fold to any show of strength... they'll still let you steal a lot. In all the tournaments I have won on Empire, I've basically been able to steal my way to big stack, and getting a couple big pots when the flop hits me when somebody calls. The play is always fairly weak-passive. When you get in a hand like the 32o one... perhaps check-raise a bit more, but let it go before you lose too much. The way you were going, you know you could have gotten all those chips back by stealing.

That maxisback guy is a bit of a loose cannon. I've played against him many times, and he always has something unpleasant to say.

Just started Empire cuz I got a rakeback deal. My bankroll game up to this point has been the 3/6 5 player max limit tables at Paradise - but I'm trying to "spread my wings." Yeah maxis was a nut - those guys are fun to hammer. I doubled up earlier on Ship-It with a bluff that hit and he got furious. It was great. Board had 52TT with second T making 2 Ts on board. I correctly put him on either JK or QK (but didn't think he was suited) and reraised his turn bet all-in - thinking he was better than he was and would fold knowing that an A beats him. He called with just JK and my 89 os piad off when an 8 hit the river. Thats why you see me needling him a bit.

I also get into trouble from the blinds at this stage in a S&G. I'll
connect the small pair against one or two opps and make a move.
Ofcourse, since I only connect the small pair, I'll want to keep things
cheap and hence my difficulty. Any sign of weakness gets pounced
on and I am forced to fold or get into a showdown I don't want to
be in.

Not so sure. Let's review the hand. A guy with 9,000 chips simply calls on button to a BB with 7,000 and flop comes out rainbow 249. I check (very unlike me) and he MIN bets to which I fire out a reraise (again it wasn't a big enough re-raise but forgetting that for now), he merely CALLS. I don't think he had one part of that flop. Sensing weakness I bet strong even with the turn of a K and he raises. I had put him on a hand like AT, TQ, JQ, TK, or even JK. The reason I folded was because of that K. However, his reraise was absolutely the right play no matter what as long as he knew (which he should have that I didn't have a hand like 9K, 4K or 2K.

I'm almost positive he didn't have the 9,4, or 2 so I have 3 reads on this hand.

1) He had nuttin but maybe A hi.

2) He had a monster and was a limper.

3) He caught the K (doubt it cuz wouldn't he try to suck me out if he caught the K?).

I had just been moved to this table so no real read, which is why I gave it up. The reason I think the 2s may have been good is because (post-flop at least) I probably woulda played it the same way he did on that re-raise flop - wait for the bet on the turn and quickly reraise it no matter what two cards I held.

i really don't like this hand. raising with trash is fine when no one else is in the pot. punishing loose players is fine by raising with decent cards in position. this hand fits neither though.

i would bet out to see where i was. if he raises strong, the fold is fine. your checkraise doesn't get much credit from him because you have a bully image, so you might have been best just to play it straightforward. i'm not sure raising a higher amount is the key either, the more you raise the more it looks like you are bullying him.


i would just fold the 44 hand. just because you have 10bb and a pocket pair doesn't mean its autopush. you had plenty of time to sit back and wait for a real hand and building your stack back up through steals along the way. for the most part, i liked the way you played except for those 3 hands.

Well, my read is a medium pair. Maybe 77 or 66. Whey would he
call on that board with overcards? When the K shows, your raise
is inconsistent with your raise on the flop. I don't think he had a
K.

i would bet out to see where i was. if he raises strong, the fold is fine. your checkraise doesn't get much credit from him because you have a bully image, so you might have been best just to play it straightforward. i'm not sure raising a higher amount is the key either, the more you raise the more it looks like you are bullying him.


i would just fold the 44 hand. just because you have 10bb and a pocket pair doesn't mean its autopush. you had plenty of time to sit back and wait for a real hand and building your stack back up through steals along the way. for the most part, i liked the way you played except for those 3 hands.

The 4c 9h hand I would do again in an instant - The guy limped in early position and hadn't gone over the top of anyone yet. Position, position, position - I was CO and used it.

23 BB - yeah maybe a bet on the flop was better - woulda saved me some dough, cuz I probably woulda folded to a reraise on the flop there.

44 - I know, I know, this was my worst played hand of the tourney and it came at a bad point (hence the what a waste). I'm not sure a fold is so wise there with the potential to double up and the likelihood of my steals is going to start decreasing the more I do them. But I could live with a fold there I guess. I definitely should not have pushed preflop. Call, push the flop is still my preference there.

Unless he's even worse than I thought, I doubt it. If you don't have the huevos to raise with this hand with position then you are also folding when your 6 or 7 doesnt hit.

I don't know exactly what he was doing. I would call that board in his position with any two coards (but overcards would be nice) specifically because I have almost a 50% shot of a card over a 9 coming on that turn and then I can raise any bet that comes to me. And even if a low card comes I can raise representing a TT or higher (which is limpable in this situation) as long as the board doesn't pair up.

the 49o is bad. position raises are fine when it is folded to you or when you have good cards you want to isolate one person with. neither of these apply in this case. besides, if you want the play to work, you have to make it hard for the person to call you. he only had to call 2 more to see the flop.

Disagree - Texas was playing the rush. He was weak. I felt that he just wanted to limp - went with it, it worked. I agree it was only 2 more to see the flop, but against this guy it wasn't number of BB it was amount of chips. 600 chips had his balls in his throat. Punish when you can. Two callers or different players I fold this mofo. This hand just set itself up too well to pass. The only bad part of that hand was not showing it after he folded.
