Default video help please - macbook

I'd like to post some videos of my play on FTR, so I'm looking for some freeware video suit like camtasia. Problem, I don't have a mic for my PC, so I need to create the video on my macbook pro laptop.

Problem 2: all the screen-capture-based video software I can find for the Mac costs at least $25, and the freeware demos only allow 60 - 90 second videos, not helpful.

Does anyone know of a good freeware option for making poker videos on a Mac?

On the other hand, what do folks use for PC's? Would it be cheaper to buy a mic for the desktop and use PC video software? Is there freeware for the PC, even?

    Thanks in advance, BC.

CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software is freeware for PC

Maybe you can make this work with whatever emulator Mac uses to run PC-based software.

    Buy a mic, it's cheap.

Not sure about Mac specific software.

edit: Camtasia has a 30 days free trial without limitations.

The PC emulators for Mac don't give you full access to all system resources, especially on the graphics side of things. I will have trouble running the poker client, HUD and camstudio simul over on the emulator (VMware Fusion), not because the computer can't handle it, but because the Mac is stingy with VMware.

i feel like i'm being leveled, but even so I have this massive urge to try it

when looking at camstudio, came across ScreenToaster which looks similar to Screenr, but appears to have a couple more features.

    Thanks, guys.

Have you already used your Camtasia trial? I know they used to give you like 30 days of use or something. You can also reset almost any trial as far as I know by uninstalling the program, cleaning your registry and reinstalling. Not sure how it works on macs though as I have never owned one.

    You should check out Screenflick.

Araelium Group : Screenflick - Screen Recording / Capture

The free trial has no restrictions on video length so you'll be fine there, and it's an awesome wee application. Plus I know the guy that makes it!

BC'ers should pass a hat and buy this man what ever he wants so he can post videos. Very +EV for us! So good to see you back Robb. Send me a pm if nothing else I'll send you a damn mic!

Yeah, I'd be willing to chip a buck or two into the mic pool as well. That said, what celtic said is right, speakers/headphones can function as a serviceable microphone in a pinch.

I look forward to watching your videos, Robb.

The mic isn't quite the only issue - the PC's right next to the kids' bedrooms, and if I make a video there it will wake them up (very -EV in every way with the wife, as you can imagine).

I think I'll use one of these trials or the net-based approach.

No one needs to pony up for a mic. I am rather surprised you're so interested, HarleyGuy. I will try to get to posting some videos ASAP since you said something. Exams start Thursday, and my life is MUCH simpler in about a week.

What would you like to see? I was thinking of posting some of my nanostakes HU SnG's, just to get some guys critiquing where I'm at there. But I could do some 5nl and 10nl 6max, too. I'm not rolled at the moment for 25nl, since I haven't been playing and withdrew. I'm down to a few hundred bucks in BR.

Let me know what videos you would be interested in, and I'll see what I can get done before Christmas. I know nothing about Rush poker, btw, if that's the new rage.

Robb main reason I'm is based on the many valuable post you've posted in the past!

I'd like to see your microstakes. I'm not into the SnG's. Don't know if you do the fullring or not but if so that would be great as well.

I don't know if my preferences count for anything, but I'd also like to see you do some cash game sessions. 6max would be great as that's what I'm focusing on now, but anything would be appreciated.

    Thanks Robb.

Nice to see you in the BC again Robb!

My vote is for some 5/10 NL 6-max action.

also, +1 on the cheap mic. You can find one for like $15 and might be worth it even if you're going to do the vids on the mac because who knows what the quality would be like with a built in laptop mic..

My interest is in both FR and 6max cash tables 5/10NL.

probably better than the quality of a $15 mic =)

Hey, just a quick note - I've been working on some ideas for some microstakes videos, including some grinding at the current 5nl and 10nl tables 6m. And I got this brilliant idea.

I can actually use this technology at work. I teach a lot of stats classes, a couple that use some rather sophisticated software. So I requested a microphone for my PC at work, and I actually will make some training videos, explaining to students how run a hierarchical step-wise multiple regression modeling procedure or some such bs. And then I'll bring the mic home and make some poker videos. The IT guys promised to get something this week.

As many of you know, I have a rather extensive list of epic FTR posts, so my idea was to work my way through some of my favorite articles and discussions, trying to find as many hands as possible in the videos that can be related to the concept(s) in question.

Warning: these videos will be much more for me to re-learn poker than anything else, but I will start in on making them and see what y'all think.

IMO, hand review videos are better than live videos.

"hierarchical step-wise multiple regression modeling procedure"

Yeah, better start with something simple
