Default Thoughts on new VP$IP Column on Pokerstars?

    So,

I logged in today to find this little tid bit of update information:

    VPIP Column
The 'Plrs/Flop' column in the Lobby can now be replaced with 'VPIP' through Options>>Lobby Display Options>>Show VPIP instead of Players/Flop column.
To me, maybe I'm being idiotic here, but this is great news. It'll make it that much easier to find the really loose tables. I wonder if it works off a percentage base (each player is worth a certain percentage, and their percentage of their Vpip is added to the total table vpip.)

What do ya'll think? Will it help to find (and hopefully exploit) more games, or do you think it's worthless and we should have been doing this with players/flop anyways?

What I want to know is how many orbits go into the count. Cause if it is the average of the last 5 hands it isn't really all that helpful. Anyone know the answer to that question?

Good point there, didn't think about that. I wonder if it's the same as the players per flop percentage.... so how many orbits or what not are figured into that.

they sound pretty similar in their effects. ie higher % = typically better table. however, one difference would be that VPIP would count limp/folders in the %, whereas % of players seeing the flop would not, as limp/folders don't see flops, obviously. not sure what to infer from that as regards strategic table choices....

also these stats may be quite ineffective/borderline redundant, as !Luck pointed out, depending on how many hands prior to the current one the sample is drawn from.

I do like the different colored circle around the player image now. When I see a red circle (indicates nit in my world) around the sb and bb I know I can prob steal me some blinds.

yeah i use green for high vpip and passive, red for nit or decent aggro player, and yellow for neutral. makes table selection far easier from the lobby!

I think the VP$IP column is borderline completely useless because it will show tables in about the same order as players/flop does.
