Thought: FTR Guided book discussion
This is just an idea I'm kicking around, and I thought I'd post it in here and see if anyone would be interested. I posted it here in the beginner's forum as I think newer players would get the most out of it, but I think all of us can occasionally use a refresher course.
Here's my thought: I would pick a Poker book (or we could vote on a book.) We would then all get that book (those interested, anyway.) We would all then take said book, and read one chapter a week. I would moderate and guide a discussion on it. I mean, some of it would be sickeningly repetitive for experienced players, but it would give us some very detailed thoughts and analyses on poker strategies... really delving into them. We could all post hand histories relating to that topic, and every week I would write up an analysis of that chapter in a sound bite format that everyone could print up and look at for quick reference. I would also scour the forums for related posts to the topic, and compile a compendium of some of the best threads.
This would probably get cumbersome inside of any given forum, and may be best segmented off into it's own forum. I'd probably have to beg the powers that be or offer sexual favors to get that done, but I think that for the right cause it would be good. I mean, this would be a very topical and targeted forum... so it would have to be strictly moderated.
I think this would be an awesome way to make sure that you're getting every penny of value out of your books. Some of these books have errors, too... so it would be good to eliminate any misconceptions...
I don't know... I'm just throwing an idea out there. Would anyone be interested in this kind of strongly guided discussion. If there's sufficient interest, I'll take it to the powers that be, and see what I can get done.
