Default Table Selection: 1 1000NL table full buy in, or 2 1000NL...

    Well guys,

I've lost a fair amount of money in poker because I can't keep a consistant strategy, and as a result my ability to tilt is pretty appearant.

As I try to rebuild myself I thought I'd work myself up from the bottem up starting with table selection.

My bankroll as it is is about 1500 dollars. As far as the table limit I play at, thats a choice I've made.

Now my question is, is it better to play at (1) NL 1000 and buy in for a ful stack, or play at (2) NL 1000s at half stack.

    1) If you play at two tables you'll lose it twice as fast.

    2) If you play at one table you'll lose it half as fast as option 1.

    3) If you play at 50NL or 100NL you may win.

    The choice is yours.

......Or you could buy in at a 5K table caus the blinds are bigger and you'd make money quicker.

Seriously putting every poker cent you possess in the world on the line at once is madness. Imagine you get dealt KK on hand one only to find the 'idiot' across the table has AA?

Id suggest that with a 1K roll you try the 25NL tables a bit, especially caus you say yourself there are flaws in your game! Leave the 1000 tables until you can sustain yourself there.

On the other hand if you fancy a nice exciting gamble work away; it would certantly get my heart racing to sit down with my entire 'roll!

don't go to $1k NL, they'll eat you alive

if you're going to be dumb about bankroll management, go play $100 or $200 NL at least, it'll give you a few shots before you go broke.

Well, I'm able to play pretty well.

More than once I've made 3 or 4k a night, the problem is that my psychology is all wrong.

Are there any pointers, guides or anything (other than the ones on this website) that you guys would recommend?

Then there's the other nights you go broke. Read some bankroll management posts. Sitting down with your whole roll in a game you likely can't beat (a la Rounders) is not a good plan.

Well it sounds like you had a really good run, but some bad beats caused you to tilt and almost lose your whole roll.

It happens to everyone. I strongly urge you to read these three posts:

http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...pic.php?t=4971 absolutely the most important one

    http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...pic.php?t=9214

    http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...pic.php?t=8435

Then from there, you need to realize with the 1k bankroll that you need to drop down stakes IMMEDIATELY. 100NL is too high - we're talking 25 and 50NL. Especially if you say you have leaks in your game.

Yes, there's going to be a dramatic change in the psychology. There's just not as much of a rush pulling in a 30 dollar pot in pulling in a 2k pot. I know, because it happened to me as well... but, if you are serious about the long term aspect of poker and want to make a steady second income playing it, you need to do it. BUT READ ALL THOSE POSTS.

Once you do that, come here and we'll offer all the advice you'll need. Read the posts about losing... realize bad beats are okay! (otherwise, fish would never play if they didn't hit their two outer... and they are your atm)... and realize if you spend time at the lower limits harnessing your skill... grinding away... you'll be back at 1k NL in no time - and you'll be the one growing the bankroll.

okay? cool. welcome to ftr and don't go bust and we'll be best friends for life

Thanks dude, I'm going to read all of those.

Today I played NL 600, and I made 2100 today. I'll take your advice though and drop the level that I'm playing at.

The thing is, if you're not disciplined enough to manage your bankroll properly, then you're not disciplined enough to beat guys sitting at thousand dollar tables, because you're too emotionally attached.

When the line is crossed in the bankroll department, then the player becomes gambler with a problem.

I know a guy who I keep giving $10 or $20 online to start a roll (he pays me). He can't keep himself on the $2 tables until he's bankrolled for $5 and $10. He keeps moving up too soon and busting every damn time. Once he built up to $50, and sat down at a $50 NL table. He saw a flop with K7 and the flop came out KK7. He went all in against an aggressive high stack and lost his entire bankroll when the guy rivered aces full. He was whining and crying, but the fact is it wouldn't have hurt so bad on a $5 or $10 table. He would have laughed and reloaded.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

Another good day today, I'm up 1800 and I'm done for the day.

Made a bunch of good moves today, including folding a boat to a higher boat.

Oh man.. talk about dumb.. I'm sorry man but people playing with 1500$ at the 1000 NL tables is why I made so much money when I played there with a 25k$ bankroll; you become too attached to your money, and its just too easy to go bust. I can bluff you off a hand even when you have the near nuts because your too afraid. At that level bluffing is very important and you need to able to part with your whole stack and not be afraid to move it all in the middle.

Play at the most 200 NL (youd still be underbankrolled for that, but it wouldnt be as bad). Espicially playing only 1 table, your not going to win, most people at that level are grinders that can be very patient because they play 5+ tables at once. Thats why at the high stakes the players are so ridicously tight, they never get bored because there are on so many tables (like me!). GL.
    BR now: $106900
Playing now: $10/10/20 - $20/40 NL live, $10/20 NL full ring online, $10/20 NL 6-max online, $20/40 FL 6-max online, $100/200 FL live
Goal: $125000 for $25/50 NL live

The best players in the world often have 5+ buy-in swings.

I dont care if your Phil Ivey. Play above your bankroll, and it's a simple fact that you WILL bust. Not "you might bust", but "you WILL bust".

(note: ignore this post if your now playing at the correct limits)

    Q. Is poker Gambling?
    A. Do you use correct bankroll management?

I've lowered the limit that I've been playing at, keep note that my bankroll is now 3800 as opposed to 1500.
