If you're just learning, I'd suggest sticking to FR; but remember there is little difference between FR and 6max when it comes down to it.
You might be able to make money playing 8/6 all the way up to 50s or even 100s probably, but it is no where near optimal. More likely you will break even and make money off bonuses and rakeback, not a good situation; you should learn to play the game for profit while still in the micros. Playing such an overly tight style will probably only stunt your growth. Learn to play postflop.
Grinderschool helped me when I was trying to beat 2nl and 5nl. I stopped subscribing after that. If you think you can learn something from it, and it definitely sounds like someone like you can, I would suggest subscribing.
You should concern yourself less with adopting a different 'style' or deviating from your previous 'style' or whatever, and focus on learning the game. Focus on concepts, don't worry about whether you run 17/12 or 13/11. If you go about learning the game correctly, these things will take care of themselves. Worry about your stats when you have a sample of 20k hands at least!
Good luck.
