    Default Bet-sizing reads

Wouldn't you like to soul read like nutsinho? I've collect some of his vintage threads to take a look at. Lots of FTR regs make really good reads and form accurate ranges based on stats, board, stack sizes, etc. Nutsinho's the best imo at using bet-sizing to really narrow ranges and make impossible calls and raises.

    Start here:

Nutshino's Picking off steals provides nice insight into when villain's line makes no sense compared to the board and game setting. Short, with great input from Renton and Fnord.

Then try these three mind-blowing threads: What have I gotten myself into?; Pwning 101: Do not try this at home; and Brag hand (53o).

I hope you learn 3 things:

    1. Think about hands like nutsinho. These aren't "play these this way" threads, they're "how to think about poker problems" threads.

    2. Think about your own bet-sizing more accurately so that villains can't soul read us as easily.

    3. Learn to find vintage content on your own. There are amazing threads throughout FTR's archives. Here's three hints for quality searches. (a) You can find all threads started by any FTR icon by clicking on their FTR SN and then clicking the blue link. (b) You can use advanced google search with ftr's url + forum code. (c) You can also simply page back through the forums and find topics/authors that interest you.

FWIW, I pm'd nutsinho a couple weeks back and asked him if he had time to write a "bet-size reads" post for the Short-handed forum or a more basic one for the BC. I think it's awesome he still posts here on FTR, but he didn't have time for this project, it seems. No worries. That just means it's up to us regs and noobies in the BC to dig a bit and try to work out some of the things he's learned that make him a HUGE winner at online pokerz.

Regs, feel free to comment on anything relevant that will help noobies.

Wow, thanks Robb. I don't have time to go through all of this right now but I definitely will in the next few days.

For anyone doing FTR searches on good content, try searching for the nutsinho essay contest and read through all of the essays submitted by our very own FTR members. There are some really good ideas there.

One thing to bare in mind is whether your site has a bet pot button and the ability of your opponents. Sometimes bad players just prefer to push buttons than to think about value.

This is a good point - most of those threads from nuts were before almost every site went to "bet pot" and before betting scripts that auto-bet-sized for you were ubiquitous. However, guys using the bet pot buttons and scripts are pretty obvious, even to the not quite alert.

There are times, maybe only once per 1k hands, when the bet size I see makes no freakin' sense. I replay the action, decide he's full of it, and I barrel with a complete rebluff. Take it down. And I say: thank you nutsinho :P

Theres no set rules, but often if bet sizing just doesnt make sense I'll call. See my comments about a hand in my latest video thread where I was prepared to fold to a bet, but called a min check/raise because it just didnt make sense to me. That said, sometimes fish do really weird things and still have it. Something I got off a Fnord post a long time ago was, "ask yourself if he wants you to fold or call and do the opposite". If you ask yourself what they're trying to achieve sometimes you can make good reads/plays...and sometimes they're fish who have it.
