Default 11+1 6m Turbo J9 Hand (First HH Post)

I am new to FTR. My son will post the HH below. Villian is 42/17 over 24 hands. His 3b is 15%. His AF is 1.3. No additional reads.

Advice on all streets please. I am just trying to learn something about the game. I would appreciate any and all advice.

I wouldn't be too worried about the diamond draw since it'd have to be runner runner to hit it. The straight draw is a little more of a problem, but the villain could also just be playing AJ for top pair.

I would've bet more on the flop, probably around 280 or so. I'd also raise the turn to around 400. If the river isn't an ace or doesn't add to the straight draw (queen or eight) I'd bet/raise a sizeable amount.

bigger on flop, you're ahead about always and your sizing won't have much impact on the calling frequencies of the hands you're ahead of.

I'm no SnG expert but here are my thoughts:

    Preflop is fine.

Flop I would definitely bet more like daven said. Between 200 and 300 seems pretty standard. In this hand maybe on the higher side so that stacks are nicer if you wanna get it in on the turn.

If you had bet more on the flop and then he had donk bet the turn, then you would just get it in and it would be no problem.

As played I dunno, I kinda just wanna call turn and call whatever donk bet he comes up with on the river.

I think raising can be okay. Obviously it depends on a lot of things, like how tight the button is, whether or not the blinds are 3-betting, and how often the blinds fold to continuation bets. But it's not like I'm getting dealt J9 in the CO and instafolding it.

Edit: although his reads do say that the SB is fairly loose, so fold definitely has merit given stacks

    FTR's first father/son combo?

It's a fold PF for me. I'd probably bet like 240 on the flop.

Small bets on the turn like this is usually a draw that wants to set a price for playing the hand. A queen is the first thing that comes to mind, but I think there are a range of hands this type of opponent may have floated with.

If he's the type that can't release draw, I'd just shove the turn donk bet. Otherwise, call turn, call most rivers.

Would be cool. Dunno. I just hope that, this time next year, we can dual-post about our winnings, with both of us over $1k.

I think Dad's bet sizing is too small on all streets, but he sort of defaults to a decent small ball game. He is agro enough to keep others from just raising him off every hand, but rarely makes the big tourney-ending mistakes. I'm hoping that Kill Everyone will enhance his understanding of small ball + aggression. I think just a few tweaks could really improve his game and get him winning consistently.

Thanks to all the FTR regs who have commented in this thread. Dad read all the comments itt on my screen, and he's learning a lot in the SnG strategy section right now.

    Merry Christmas.

Thanks for all of the comments. I will be posting in the future so I look forward to more good ideas. It is really great that you would take the time for me. Sorry that I can not return the favor today. Maybe tomorrow.

Other than that basically what fulksy and company said. Don't open this hand most of the time, once you do bet ~ 300 on flop and then pot is 400+300+300 = 1000 and you can just shove in the last 900 he has behind on any turn card.

Just a tip: Think about your bet sizing and what it will do to stack sizes on future streets and how that will affect the play of your hand. Here you definitely want to get allin and if he is calling 160 he will call 300 with a similar or the same range.

doh, I read horribly. I thought bb called 120 and it was 20/40. Thanks.

Barring reads then I agree with just folding PF. As played I also agree with betting bigger on the flop.
