Default 77pre. 44Q flop raised - should I have called?

Sorry guys, hand history convertor does not like the Party Poker Mac beta client. Ugly format follows!

i'd fold if it's the first time he's been messing with you , this is really player dependant. check calling the flop and then donkbetting the turn on a brick might be an option too.

b/f flop is standard after raising, but checking has its value against fish, he probably stacks top pair even against bb who saw free flop, so don't feel obliged to raise these spots pre, mix it up imo. There's definitely value in raising because he l/c worse and probably folds easily when he misses, so I'd say this hand is fine as played.

    Thanks for the reply.

This was indeed the first time he had messed with me, so I figured that although I had him on a pretty broad range pre-flop (really anything like 22+, suited connectors and suited aces - my putting people on ranges is pretty vague, still!) I narrowed that right down when he raised. Either he was bluffing (and the only evidence I had of that was that he liked to bet a lot pre-flop) or he had a Q or a 4 in there. Either way, I would be beat.

Last week I would have called him... progress, I hope.

Calling would be horrible. His range when he raises is Qx 4x (prob not that many 4x) and not much else, he might be bluffing but we don't win money off fish by making hero calls against them, we make money off them by stacking them when they can't fold to our monster, and we make money off them by exloiting their tendancy to call too much pre flop then fold too much post flop.

Fold when fish show strength unless you beat top pair or you have a solid draw at a good price.

I am also reminding myself of very strong advice handed to me by Chusko, something like at microstakes for the love of Poker Jesus don't bluff!

So these suggestions I will leave to one side until I think I have some idea of what I am doing, and even then, only maybe...

Thanks - this sounds like really good advice. When I am back on my big 'puter I may just print it off and stick it on the wall!

obviously i didn't advise you to call his reraise on flop.
i said ' check -call'' on the flop meaning you check instead of bet if he happens to be agressive that could be a good line if the turn bricks of u can lead the betting on the turn.
