I think it's pretty good. I don't feel an ace, a lot of pairs are going to fold there, and if wrong about the ace you've got two redraws

Seems like a good play to me - you could very well even have the best hand at this point.

To me, that screams "I'm bluffing" but its likely villian doesn't have much of a hand.

    Default insta-AI

I think you are going to get your opponent to fold here, but it does look like a bluff so you might get a call from a 4 or a 3. He could have had a weak ace and not raised preflop in which case you still have a draw to the best hand if hes not a boat already. The reason I don't like the AI is incase he does have an Ace you are for sure getting called and your tourney life is within 7 outs. I would have like to have seen a 3x here cause if he pops you back you can always fold and move from there. just my 2cents

3x leaves him with only 500 chips. He doesn't have enuff chips to get fancy.

i dont understand why you all insist on it looking like a bluff. i probably play A8 and less the same 50% of the time. flop check looking for a c/r or c/f. then the turn improves me by so much i check again hoping for a bluff - at which point there are enough chips in the pot for me to push and perhaps get called by second best hands.

i really like this move the more i think about it.

to those who insist that this reeks of a bluff, what are your calling ranges.

You're down 3-2 against 73o, and it's entirely possible he has a 3 or 4. If he has an ace, you're down about 6-1.

Of course, you'd probably get a 3 or 4 to fold.

Actually, it sort of seems like he'd have a 3 or 4 - there are 2 flush draws out now, and no one claimed an ace, so he's protecting his low pair.

I love it. you may even have the best hand.

The same reason I think it is a bluff is the same reason why someone could be slowplaying. That is your play, who's to say no one else does it? Cranky could have checked top pair or worse, top two and now when the turn comes, he's filled up and since he didn't claim the ace on the flop aggressive draws and 2nd or 3rd pair might pay him off (I'm not saying this is the case, just why I don't like the check/raise AI). I think since chardrian is right about the fact that you can't 3x cause your left with such a small amout of chips, so AI is your real only play back. I think I like a call here since risk IMO isn't worth the reward (incase of a slowplay). Although, I think he is folding here.

    calling here is awful.

    Default awful?

Why is calling here awful? You still don't have a made hand and really don't have reads on this player, do you? Say he calls you with a 3 or a 4 and you blank the river, Cranky has you covered and there goes your tourney. With a CC your able to see if you hit your draw and still fold with a 800$ stack to battle back from. Not to mention, any face card that pops up on the river you still might be able to rep and take down. I don't mind your play at all, I'm just saying another way it could have been played out.
