    Default Push or Fold

I really need to know if I made the right play or not.

Played a sat tourn last night, freeroll, 5000 people.

We are down to 387 people, top 300 get a ticket to the next round. I am sitting with 93k in 225 position. Blinds are 1200/2400 anti 600

My mindset was that if I could pick up one more blind I thought I would have enough to make it into the top 300.

I am sitting in small blind: get dealt A rag; folded around to me.

The villian(big blind) was very aggressive. I was paying attention to him since he arrived at the table and limped in from under the gun the first hand. And I always pay close attention to the players on my left. He liked to raise and apply pressure, but he had folded without the goods. He was sitting with 138k in chips.

So I literally thought to myself if I push here I should be safe unless he wakes up with a monster. I didn't want to 3 bet as he had called a three bet a couple of times in the big blind and I would be out of position, and unless I hit an ace, I would have no idea where I stood, his range was huge, seen him play middle position on a three bet with 2 4 off, he won that hand when he flopped trip 2's. I also thought the he could fold and make it to the top 300. He would have to risk 66% of his chips if he made the call.

I know that when I pushed all in, it had to look like a steal attempt, as that was the mode the table was in.

He called with K 10 off and hit a ten, I get knocked out.

Now Maybe I could have folded to the top 300, but I felt like it was a good spot for a steal.

The results of the hand are irrelivant, I just need to know if I made the right play, or should I have played it a different way.

    Thank you for your help!

Do you realise , if you had of folded here and sat out every hand , you very likely would have made the final 300 .

That very well might have been true. Maybe the answer to my question is to be more patient?

I was concerned that when we got closer to the bubble that play would get real slow and I did not want to get short on chips.

But also looking for a reference to handle this type of villian when they are on your left.

Maybe the results answer my question, FOLD or was it the right play and that is the way it goes sometimes??

your play in that hand was probably correct , I do agree with it and I do believe you were ahead of him.

"We are down to 387 people, top 300 get a ticket to the next round. I am sitting with 93k in 225 position"

I think position 225 would have been enough to get you your ticket. people below you would be blinded out etc...

Also , from personal experience , I was 30th in a tournie, top 50 got paid.
    There was 51 people left.

I had KK, I raised, someone came with me, flop Kxx . I fired again, villian picked up a flush. I finished 51st. lesson learned.

If I had of folded.checked or anything else....lesson learned.

The bubbles more important than 1 hand.

read all the posts in this forum and digests ask questions etc...etc

    good luck.

the bubble's not important in a standard MTT. in a satellite, it is. being 30/51 in an MTT is not a good enough reason to not go broke with KKK.
Playing big pots at small stakes.

You pushed 38.5 bbs with Ace-rag vs an opponent that played 2 4 as you said and in the process risking your tournament for around 8k chips.

No, wait for a better spot. Just learn from this and move on. Tourneys are hard to make it deep in. Don't try to make plays on bad players. Plays only work on good ones or at least most of the time. Against donks try to play more straight forward. My opinion only though. GL

I AGREE 100%. Play your great hands and when you hit trip Kings be willing to stick it all in. In a MTT the top finishers are the one's who get paid...I mean REALLY paid. If your not willing to hit the flop this good and try to make something happen cause your afraid of the bubble then that's all you'll ever do...barely cash.

In a satellite it's different as 1-50 or whatever get the same prize. Kinda like a Double or nothing SnG. Dumb to go bubble there.

    GL all!!!

I think that this says it all....

"You pushed 38.5 bbs with Ace-rag vs an opponent that played 2 4 as you said and in the process risking your tournament for around 8k chips."

With that said, looks like a stupid play! Thank you to everyone that put in some input.

I am sure I will be in the same situation again and will make a better choice.
