Default how good odds do you need

How good odds do you need to risk your tournament life. The odds probably differ depending on how much chips you have in comparison to the blind.

In the last 2 tournaments I've played I was eliminated early because I was all-in being 89% favourite in one (top-set against runner-runner straight, guy had AA) and over 90% favorite in the other (flopped boat against higher boat on river). I think in thoose cases it was correct to go all-in since I was such a favorite when the money went in but where does the line go? Being 70%, 60%, coinflip? We are talking about even money situations here.

Is it possible to set up any guidlines, I realize teory says as long as you have pot-odds it's ev+ but the tournament life has to be calculated into the formula or am I wrong?

I like the sound of 70% favorite.

It depends on so many factors that i don't think you can really make a formula for it. Part of being a great mtt player is being able to look at chips stacks, blinds and how many players are left and judge the correct action and how much you need to gamble. Most of this comes from experience and instinct, not mathematical formulas imo.

Agree with BMX, it's just too fuzzy to put math around.

You should be thrilled getting it in as a 70 % favorite everytime, but I don't see how that number helps you play. If you're sitting there with JJ it's pretty tough to tell the difference between AQ, KQ and A10, especially as the blinds get higher and you get short handed.

If you're at all regreting moving in as an 80 % favorite, play a lower buy in tourney("I think in thoose cases it was correct to go all-in since ") . That's as good as you can do it, no worries.

Forget the math, every time you lose a tourney (or any pot) just ask yourself if you played it right (or post it here), if the answer was yes, it's all good. opening the pot AI with 4x the BB with 99 is always a good play, I don't care if the guy behind you flips over TT or 22. Opening the pot AI with 44x the BB with 99 is always a bad play.
