Raise it as high as you know they'll still call with their trash is always my take. Like, if they'll call 8BB then raise that. Ofcourse if you normally never do this it'll stick out like a sore thumb and they'll fold. But if you can get away with it then it has many advantages:
- less people to the flop who can suck out on your strong hands
- even if they call, you priced them harder to suck out on you (assuming you're ahead preflop)
- it's easier to goad people into making mistakes, like bad calls or bad bluffs, on a bigger pot than on a smaller pot.
