What do you think of this hand? I don't remember why I just checked preflop. So other than that how does the rest of it look? I raised all in on the river because it was pretty clear he had something, and the only reasonable thing I could put him on is a weaker king. People at $50NL usually don't ever consider kickers when they have trips.

Yeah I don't understand checking from the BB preflop, but that aside I think you're up against hands like KQ and KJ more than you are up against sets.

hmm. its hard to say, he could have anywhere from a straight to a middle pp to a weaker king to K7. raise preflop!

I generally don't like moves like this, i feel like you're either getting called with a straight or getting a fold by a middle pp more often than not. I think a sensible raise is better as there are quite a few weaker hands that might give you action here but would fold to a push. of course, the bigger a donkey he is, the more i'll bet.

Unless he was chasing a gutshot with a hand like 58, which is unlikely, or chasing an open ended straight with 35, which is also remote, I don't see why we are fearing a straight here.

eh, i guess i'm probably off with the straight. I find that weird straights burn me often, i have a personal vendetta against them, and I feel like i've seen 35 flipped up in situations like this one time too often.

The push is still too risky for me though. I think you can get value out of quite a few hands that will fold to a push, and a good amount of the time you're called, you will be beat by something. Depends on just how bad the guy you're up against is, it just seems odd to me to be check calling with top pair then trips, then bet out the river pretty hard. i think the odds of him either bluffing or having trips beat make a push no good.

    value bet rather than push?

He called and won with a straight 35o. I guess If I had raised preflop I would have never been in this situation. Also the river all in is sort of pointless. I mean, I don't know specifically what its trying to accomplish and how it can be productive against any other hand but Kx (not a full house though).
It ran through my mind to just call, because usually people at $50NL will have something if they bet into that board OOP on the river. But I've just called/checked on the river so many times when I don't have the nuts only to see that I could have won more money with another bet or raise.

I just feel really weak-tight calling this river, should a value raise be the norm in this spot? And do you think the way this hand played out I would typically have the worst or best hand?

i think a value bet with a hidden hand is always called for here. Any limped hand kx cannot be a strong as AK, although obviously a full house is possible.
I think youre good here most times and therefore an extra value bet on the river is a better play than a call. Although, how you would play when the straight make s a reraise i know not

Its ok to occasionally limp with AK for variety, you just have to be wary of the fact that if the board straightens up you have got to release the hand.
