Delaware Park casino
I played at the Delaware Park casino and raceway on Saturday night. Like the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, the poker room is under the racetrack bleachers, but here there is tons more headroom and LOTS of space between the many tables. Also, there is nice wood paneling on the walls. To see what games they spread, check out this sweet webpage which is wired straight into their Bravo table system: Delaware Park Poker Room They also have plenty of tournament action.
I arrived at 9:15 p.m. and got immediate seating at $1/$2 NL cash. It was a fucking passive rockfest, with multiple people complaining any time I raised pre-flop... which was every time I entered a pot. A tiny cbet would almost always take down the pot since they all played fit-or-fold. There were also 1-2 loose fish giving away their chips, and through a combination of stealing and value betting against the fish, I easily build up my $200 to $480 within less than 3 hours.
I was planning to take the money and run, but round about midnight, another table broke and a bunch of young guys joined our table with $500 stacks. I licked my lips and waited for my chance to get into a big pot with one of them. Also, a couple of horrible shortstackers kept blowing out and rebuying for $100 at a time. Unfortunately, my premo hands started whiffing every flop, and the table got so loose that my $30 cbets were getting called 2-3 ways. When I finally flopped a monster (66 on A6K), I got sucked out on the river by an obvious flush with no pair on the board, and I had to give up to a weaktight's all in. Things kept going from bad to worse until I walked away -$300 for the night.
So, ironically, the room has plenty of chaser fish who rebuy and rebuy all night, yet I only happened to make money when it was a virtual rock garden. No complaints here, just kind of sad that I didn't have the time and money to stay long enough to ride out the temporary trough.
The rake is 10% up to $4 and they have bad beat jackpots. Drink service is pretty awful (guy next to me waited over an hour for a simple coffee) and to add insult to injury, you have to pay for mixed drinks.
Overall, despite my loss, I walked away with a very favorable impression of this room and highly recommend it to D.C. area players who happen to be driving up I-95. It is only 2 hours from Washington in nighttime traffic.
