What should I have done?

Last night I played in a 110 person live tourney. It was hosted by a local bar as part of something called the “Gorilla Poker Tour”. They are free to enter and 1st place is and entry to a regional tourney, which would lead to a series of other tourneys that would get a seat at a lesser event at the WSOP. The players here for the most part are very loose and not very disciplined.

About ½ way through, I had about 35 BB in chips and here’s what happened:

7 ppl. at the table
I am BB
Dealt to me: 3h 3s

4 callers, no raises
I raise to 3 BB and 2 call

FLOP: Qs 3c 8d

2 checks and I bet 5 BB; 1 call and 1 fold

TURN: Qh

I got the boat so I go all in. They call; ironically we have the same amt of chips.

I show the boat, he’s on Q2o, and of course the 2 comes on the river.

My question: Should I have been more aggressive when I hit the set or even pre-flop?

Pre-flop was fine, most people won't even raise there at all. Flop was fine too because you probably have the best hand and a little slowplay generally will net you more money, not less. You could arguably be more aggressive there but it isn't a requirement. No need to push or anything like that. In the end you played it fine and got sucked out on... it happens.

He's right. I don't totally agree with the preflop raise, but otherwise, I think you played this as well as you could have. Crap happens sometimes.

I raised pre flop to lessen the risk. I felt more comfortable playing low PP aginst 2 people than 4. Is that not a smart move?

Well the preflop raise was good in my opinion. You bet 3x the BB. Bet bigger next time.

You get a set on the flop, 5BB sounds to small. maybe should have bet a pot size pot. Turn was fine and The river well shit happens chief.


Prelop raise go bigger gotta get out the fish hands.

He doesnt have to bet more than that on the flop there is no draw out there so why would he want to eliminate people?

I've played the Gorilla tour for about a year now, my experience is there are a lot of calling machines out there and if you push big early they fold. Many of them look to see their chip situation when pushed, and unless they have top pair or better they will leave.

Keep on plugging away.
