Seems like loads of people have registered who have never even posted. Seems kinda weird to me, and I thought this was ment to be an FTR thing.
It doesnt particularly bother me but I wondered what everyone else thought about this.

You could argue that the Gauntlet attracts new members, but I don't think it's the reason people come to FTR. Mebbe make high card posters ineligible?

Well, If you are going to have it like last year with any 12- of 24 games i dont think there should be a restriction.

Gauntlet DOES attract new members. The trick is to get them to like our forum enough to keep posting after they register. Letting people who have never posted before play in the games lets them get to know the people around here and maybe decide to become regular posters. This is another reason our games have to be friendly and good-natured when we actually play them (our table chat makes an impression amongst the new people).

I voted no. No particular reason. Really I don't know what I'm talking about. If you can delete my vote and go for the possible unanimous decision go for it.

I've always said it, the requirement for entry into the Gauntlet should be 5 posts on FTR. |

Logistically, it would take me a much longer time (pain-in-the-ass) to check how many posts a registrant has and, if they qualify, allow them into the Gauntlet usergroup and have access to the passwords and add them to the roster.

The issue with the 1 post folks was the freerolls in season two. Everybody and thier brother came out from under a rock to play a freeroll which heavily weighted those tourneys....yes you still had to win them but if you had a bad day at poker in a free roll event with 50-60 people when all the other events had 12-15 people you had to make up a lot of ground. If people are paying thier $11, I really don't care if they have 1, 5 or 500 posts. Put the restrictions on the TOC and and other "special" events....but I think the gauntlets should be left open....when are some of the newer less experience players going to have the opportunity to play with the older ones, if not in the gauntlet.....kinda the point isnt it...."throwing down the gauntlet"

Xianti already announced that there will be no freerolls next gauntlet, so all of the above will be a non issue. If a newbie wants to show up and play, more power to him.

We could just setup a web-based form for people to apply, instead of applying in a forum post. This way we could actually do verification against the FTR database to check post costs or whatever. This would also reduce the administrative overhead. If you wanted to run with the ball, you could also just e-mail the people the passwords for the guantlet each week via a schedueled cron job. All of this is pretty simple. Let me know if I can be of assistance in the matter.

I think screening people when there was a huge problem with attendance last season is absurd.

Playing The FTR GauntletWell, I am one of your new members attracted to the site originally by your Forum which I found as part of a Google search. I don't remember what exactly it was I was doing the search on but it was probably while working on learning to "read" hands. I found the information for the most part quite helpful and picked up ideas that created new thoughts on my game. As usual, incorporating new ideas into my game caused a downturn in earnings but I have had this happen so many times I expect it. I also expect that there may come a time when I will be a strong enough player to incorporate new strategies without this downturn occurring. If you want new people to post you might want ot help them get their feet wet. Perhaps an "Introduce Yourself" thread (call it "Get To Know Me!") would be a useful and easy avenue for new people to post in since they do know about themselves. Personally, I do not know if I am qualified to answer posts on strategy and anyone can offer an opinion, but without some basis to substantiate it is reckless at best and self-centered at worst. I think I got some game as I have been payin bills( but not much else) since August but I also have leaks that pop up after I thought they were plugged. These seem to be character-related and I am looking to address these( suggestions welcome-lol) and that may be the topic of my second post unless I find it addressed here(haven't yet). This post may belong elsewhere but I do not know where it fits even after reviewing the Forum. I started this response simply to say that I did not come here for the Gauntlet but it sounds like fun playing with folks that I plan on spending some time with in our common quest to become better players. As regards having a posting criteria fine but if you make it by number of posts you are then going to be flooded (and so am I in having to reading through them) with empty, meaningless posts trying to "qualify". That will screw up your Forum or "dilute it" is a better way to put it, and that is contrary to what you have accomplished thus far. Some of that is inevitable just due to human nature even without any "qualifying criteria" because people like to "put their two cents in" and there are plenty of posts I just blow right by already. If you have a quality criteria that would be much better but waaayyy to labor intensive. I see that you(we, now?) have a contest for best posts and they were indeed good but just ask the judges how much work that was an d you can see this is not feasible. Anyway, that's my two cents worth on the topic. In a nutshell, don't have a knee-jerk response that will create a problem greater than the one you have. You do think about how your PF play sets the tone for your Flop, Turn and River right? Same here. See ya 'round.
