clicking "go to first new post"

... doesn't bring me to the first new post. Lately it's been bringing me back to posts that WERE new back on January 23rd but aren't new anymore. How can I fix this?

Not sure if it's relevant, but I use Firefox.

I have found that it works when using Chrome, but not with Firefox.

i've never noticed because i only use chrome and never ff. let me get a guy to look at this.

ya, I forgot to mention it's only in firefox, and I only notice it at work. Never at home, but i'm not on at home nearly as much.

I get this with ff too, but I think clearing cache fixes it short term.

Hey degens, our genius guy thinks he fixed this, can yal let us know if it's working as it should now? If at first it doesn't, please try clearing your cache. You shouldn't have to clear your cache more than once though, once you do it this should work forever now. At least we hope.

didn't work just now for the randomness thread Everything worked after I cleared my cache the other day, but just now I got taken to the new posts from right after I cleared it. I guess I'll clear my cache again later and try again. If it works after clearing my cache, I wouldn't mind too much. Before you got your guy on it, clearing my cache did nothing.

This is how it's been for me for longer than I can remember.

FWIW, I just got hit with this bug. Your programmer did something backwards.

When I click on posts since last visit, I used to see all the posts that I never clicked on, like the limit forum or the werewolf threads and they would even show under posts from a previous visit. Now when I come home and click on FTR's posts since last visit I'm only getting posts since my last visit. I can no longer see old posts I never clicked on. It's cool that they aren't there, but I worry about which posts may be disappearing and if I am missing some, depending on when it's cutting off the new posts. It's also how I spot spam in forums I never frequent.

It's also no longer deleting them after I open them, they still show, but the font changes to italic and the red "go to first new post" arrow and page are gone[IMG] Uploaded with ImageShack.us[/IMG]

Also, the forum seems to recognise my own posts as new unread posts. So for example, I go onto the main forum page, see the coloured spade on werewolf village subforum, click on the thread title on the right if the page, read the latest werewolf thread,.post something myself in there, come back to the main forum page and the werewolf village spade is all lit up like there's a new post, but I'm the last poster. So I get excited thinking someone may have posted in the dead thread and open up the sub forum. But find no new posts

I noticed this too, and I HATE it. I don't always have time to read everything that's new when I go to the forum, so I read it later when I have more time. But now the new posts disappear and I can't tell what I've read and haven't read. This is really tilting me. Please change it back to the way it was, I'll suffer with the old problem because this is way worse

Lynch dan. Oh sorry wrong thread. Erm yeah same problem as dan, I keep thinking there's a new post and there isn't, it's deeply upsetting.

Also, now if you read all the new posts in a forum then go back to the forum list that forum will still appear to have new posts, but if you go to it there are no new posts.

wtf ftr? Your programmers takes a dump on your site and you let him off for the weekend?

We've told them to change it back asap. It was a fix suggested on the vBSEO forum. Obvs didn't work though.

btw, I was just reading a thread, when I clicked out of it all of the new posts on the entire site were marked as read.

Okay, back a couple hours later here and the site looks to be lit up with new posts again.

Edit: on further inspection, none of the posts marked as new are actually new.

Ya I'm happy now. There was a few marked as unread when they were, but we will see if that isn't just a glitch of going back to an old setting in the backups

No matter what I do, werewolf village sub forum always has unread posts yet doesn't.

Also, I believe a firing is in order for this to happen during a werewolf game.

I think I see the (a?) pattern - if you are in a forum and read all the new posts then go back out, it will still show new posts. But then if you go back in once, all the posts show as read, and when you go back to them main screen again, it does not show new posts.

All that extra clicking would be we worth it.

Our programmer is looking into the code. He's tried all the fixes as suggested on vbseo forum, but none have worked so far. Just to get this straight, before this whole mess started, was it working fine except for in firefox?

I can vouch for firefox not working properly for a long time but nothing more.

I was only using Firefox so I don't know about other browsers

It was broken in FF for me as well.

Chrome. I'm refering to the forums acting like there's new posts when there isn't. I dont use the posts since last visit thingy

Using "view new posts" now brings about a Database Error. I'm sure/hope this is because you're working on the problem though. Just wanted y'all to know.

Huh, that's weird. After all those database errors and the site going down, the Go To First New Post worked for the first time ever for me. Forum is going painfully slow right now though.

Nevermind, must have worked because it acted like a hard refresh or something. Went to the first post that was new from last night just now.

It didn't show up as unread for me. :\

it was busted for me on chrome not that long ago, but works well now. a quick test on FF seemed to be okay too, but i guess someone else who uses FF regularly can verify.

Just had my hard drive wiped so using ie9 atm. Having the usual problem.

It's marking threads with new posts correctly for you though? It's marking threads correctly for me, but just can't seem to take me to the new post 100% of the time.

It's been working 100% for me.
