That annoying problem is back again

the one where when I click here:




Instead of taking me to the first unread post of the thread, it takes me to an older post.

I'm pretty sure I can solve this by just clearing cache or w/e but last time this happened that was nothing more than a temporary fix.

OK, weird but only werewolf forum was having this problem. I cleared cache and it's solved it.

i clear my cache like 4 times a day

Did a quick Google search and looks like the problem is with vBulletin itself and not with Firefox or anything we could do.

Started happening to me now, thanks for the jinx rong. I'm using Chrome too which is weird. I wonder if the server is just busy doing something like a big backup so it's slow updating. I can ask someone who knows more about it tomorrow.

I've had this problem for a real long time now. Ever since it showed up it has never gone away for me.

this has never ever ever ever affected me in any way whatsoever, which is really really weird... and also makes it difficult to test.

I've had this problem for about 6 months. I finally came here to post a thread about it, and apparently I am not alone.

I use firefox and clear my cache each time I come to FTR.
I do not have this problem on 2p2, which is the only other forum I frequent.

This problem disappeared for me since I started the thread but it's back now. I really don't get it.

It never goes away for me.

Apparently the solution found is only for an older version of vBulletin as it fixes something with Javascript scrolling which we don't use anymore. It's possible to reproduce it using Firefox but it doesn't seem to be attributable to any one thing in particular so it looks like it might be some sort of issue with Firefox, sorry.

we're getting somewhere with this, i'm srs. ftr has a ton of customized code and it looks like the issue is solely related to firefox not being able to locate the <a name> code when it's within a table. standard vb themes use divs and our theme is kind of outdated using tables. so that may causing this error, it is an issue with firefox but it's because of our theme. so next step is to restructure using divs and removing tables.

We've implemented a Javascript scroller just for Firefox and fixed width. Could you guys keep an eye on what the scrolling is like now? It may scroll the page as you read it when it's still loading unfortunately but unfortunately we found out even changing the whole theme to divs wouldn't solve the problem.

Now when I click the "go back one page" button on firefox, it brings me to the first post of the page of the thread I was in. I have to click it twice to get back to the previous page.

Other problem still exists.

this too. so it actually is worse now

although i should include a disclaimer that i am using chrome atm (which has no problems) and this feedback is based on browsing last night. if you have changed things between now and then, i have no idea about it.

Yup, I concur.

Passing on what I've been told: the tests on Firefox worked fine when we were testing it. Apparently, it's not supposed to hit the correct problem immediately and stand there (like happens in Chrome) - the page may move while it's being loaded and may end up in a weird position, but once all the images have been loaded (and FF stops showing "Waiting for..." in the bottom left corner) it should scroll automatically to the correct post.

Is this not happening? The back button should only require one click too now

okay, we have tried damn near everything we can think of here. the only conclusion we can come to is because vbulletin is outdated. we are running 3.8.2 and the latest stable version is 4.2.x.

we're in the process of upgrading to vb4, and i'm pretty sure this will eliminate this issue completely. i expect vb4 to be rolled out in the coming weeks, it's currently working on a test version minus a few plugins and without our theme applied.

Apparently this may have now been fixed, was a problem which came with the VB4 standard theme and the scrolling code has been removed. The change was made at midday. Let us know please

Worked for me just now.

I cleared my browser cache. Went to the commune and read some threads that had new content. It went to the correct post like it always does after I have just cleared my cache. By the time I was done reading, I saw there were some even newer posts in the threads I had just read (lol wufwugy) so I clicked on go to newest post again and it failed same as always.

So not fixed for me.
