None of this holing up inside of a zombie infested prison or farm with no natural protections being forced to fight your way out if under attack. Just clearing the boat little by little, sleeping on the deck until it's finished, then sailing away to find a good place to grow crops, etc.
The water is no deterrent for a being that doesn't need to breathe.
