    Default Yet Another Movie Thread

Movies that are awesome but did not blow out the box office, you list your faves.

I have become something of a movie buff, lately, I have really bad insomnia I probably watch something around 5 or 6 movies a week

Here are some really good movies I think, I will update this as I go.

Hard Candy - Features Juno from the movie Juno, I really enjoy the way it is filmed, the whole picture is not revealed in a lot of different ways. Really interesting subject matter too.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - Longest title for any film like ever. If you are ADD not the movie for you, it has a lot of beautiful slow scenes, and some of the best acting I have seen in a very long time.

Matchstick Men - Nicholas Cage's best role in my honest opinion(and I am a big fan of The Rock(not the man the movie.)) When I finished it really made me think, go back through the plot. Very good acting in this as well.

funny that pulp fiction hasnt been mentioned yet. Also scarface, not that I think its the most amazing movie, but it did flop in the theaters. I dont think apocalypse now or full metal jacket did well either, and they are in fact amazing movies.

the only problem with pulp fiction is that its been such a big cult phenomenon, and its been so many years, that everyone who has heard about it thinks that it was a big box office hit.

a good amount of these were box office block busters Im pretty sure.

300, V, and I am legend jump out at me. And do you really think I am legend belongs in this thread, flop or not? Its not underrated, it was ok, but not a great movie by any stretch.

Not really a problem, as you are technically correct. Though not stated as such, I think OP's point with this thread was to hear about some lesser-known but great movies that may have slipped by the mainstream.

    ah, yah that makes sense.

Well then I think your choice of equilibrium is perfect.

Another really good action (martial arts) movie is ong-bak. Also any john woo/chow yun fat movie, while not technically flops since they did very well in the hong kong cinemas, but were never here in theaters to my knowledge.

I know. I know. I wanted to like it. Really. Its an excellent movie for what it is -- a portrayal of mafia life in new york.. But it failed as a "cinematic adventure". I wasn't *involved*

That is, of course, a major difference between the 1970s era and now.

I cant really blame the godfather as its really my fault.

    Braveheart?

    By comparison (budget/USA gross):

    Pulp Fiction ($8M/$107M) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110912/business
    Braveheart ($53M/$75M) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112573/business

I'm also a huge fan of Last of the Mohicans... which wasn't a widespread commercial success...

and also The Game is one of my favorites, not sure how it did in the box office.

Don't be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood- Longest title for any film like ever.

Adaptation - Nicholas Cage's best role in my honest opinion(and I am a big fan of The Rock(not the man the movie.)) When I finished it really made me think, go back through the plot. Very good acting in this as well.

are you sure? its been a really long time since ive seen snatch and i wasnt even really paying attention cause we watched it in school. they both have jason statham in it and directed by guy ritchie.

Guy Ritchie did 3 caper films.

If you see continuity, Snatch can be considered the sequels to LS&TSB. It isn't like "2", but its close. Check the wikiepedia link for more info

The third movie sucked though. Big time. It starred Jason Statham (again), and also Andre3000

For my money best heist film ever is Heat, Deniro, Pacino, Kilmer, Jon Voight, Tom Sizemore and Natalie Portman(well underage so it doesn't count)

Kilmer has done a lot of shit movies, but he is in three of my favorites, Heat, The Ghost and the Darkness(sick movie about hunting man eating lions), and Tombstone

yah I really do like kilmer for some reason. Probably because of his performance as doc holiday. Heat and Ronin are tied for best heist film evar imo. Natalie portman is hot, underaged or not. When I first saw leon the proffessional I was about her age and she was my first celeb crush.

Hell yeah saw that in the theaters.

It was filmed in Vancouver, so somehow that made it better?
