What the hell? Even if you make it, the CHargers still have 23 seconds, a timeout, and the chance to return the ball. And all they have to do is get to the 35 or so to kick a FG and win the game...which is exactly the same situation you'd be in if you kicked a FG.
What a monumentally stupid decision. You just got back *all* the momentum, and then you go and pull one of those? Really? Terribel, terrible decision. Maybe if there were 5 ticks left on the clock, but with 23, that is just a stupid decision for a team that's as offensively challenged as the Chiefs.
That's why he made the decision though. He wasn't confident in the Chiefs ability to drive down the field in overtime or stop the Chargers from doing so. He felt that going for two there was his best chance to win and I agree that it was. Besides, at 1-7, what do they have to lose?
I'm fine with the decision. Our defense was so beaten down by the end of the game (eight starters out?), that if the Chargers got the ball the Chiefs probably wouldn't have stopped them. Even if the Chiefs DO get the ball in overtime, it's not a slam dunk that they'd be able to score. On the road, 1-7, fuck it, lets go for the win.
If we're in playoff contention they obviously kick the PAT and take their chances in OT.
