wtf?
You would move away from your children, not even to legally play poker, but just to get better deals and play vs weaker players?
You're in Portugal (mods can see IP). You have pokerstars. Granted, it's not the best in terms of deals and player pool. However, you also have Ladbrokes and Paddy Power, these two are British High Street betting shops and as such should have very weak player pools. I recall Ladbrokes being soft, at least.
A VPN, it's a minefield and you should be careful. For a start, you would need to research which VPN will do the job. Not all of them will, so you're probably going to have to pay for a decent VPN. Then you'll have the problem of banking. If you have a legal right to a bank account in a suitable nation, perhaps the UK or Holland, and an address in that country, then you won't need to commit fraud in order to fire up funds and cash out any winnings.
If I were you, I would focus on my family. If poker is a hobby, then pokerstars is just fine. If it's an income, if it's really that important to you and moving to another site is worth a lot of money, then move with your family to somewhere more suitable. You're an EU citizen, your options are plentiful.
