It's been almost two years since my motorcycle accident and I'm starting to shop for a new bike. One of the bikes I'm looking at is a kawasaki (back off Harleyguy) and one of the color schemes it comes in is a pretty fucking cool green on black. The problem is that there's a superstition in the motorcycle world that green bikes are bad luck and my wife would prefer that I don't push my luck any more than I have to at this point (even tho we both know that I'm gonna crash any bike I but at some point no matter what color it is).

The superstition about green bikes dates back to WWII when the flyboys were getting out the services and there was a surplus of army bikes for sale to the public, obv green. Looking for thrills and having lots of time plenty of cash, these guys started buying these bikes and plenty of them proceded to go get themselves killed. I'm pretty sure that most of the crazy fuckers out there killing themselves now are doing it on black bikes, but once a superstition starts it never stops.

Anyway, this got me thinking about superstitions and the reasoning behind them. Like, I believe that it is in fact bad luck to walk under a ladder. Not because of some silly superstition but because people work on ladders and sometimes they drop things from ladders and sometimes those things are heavy and could kill you.

So the question is, what other perfectly logical explanations are there for not so logical superstitions.

I've never owned a bike that didn't have one and have only layed down once. (but I was trying to wheelie into a parking place in my first apartment so I kind of deserved it)

Whenever I say something aloud that I really wish will not come true, I knock on wood. I seriously do this all the fucking time. Sometimes I'll knock on wood silently (and hoping no one notices) if some really unpleasant thought comes across my mind.

Like, for instance,

-sitting at a desk while exams are being handed out
-watching any habs/bruins game

there are many superstitions that are not backed by any logical reasoning. it's usually a false correlation more than anything.

It's lesser known that green on bikes is actually incredibly good luck. All the dudes covertly riding their green bikes with fist-fulls of money in their pockets and that fine bitch that doesn't even look at you in your dreams wrapped around 'em want it all for themselves, hence the bad luck myth.

Green Motorcycles

Supposedly, a green painted motorcycle is bad luck. The legend has it that the Harleys used in World War II were often sitting duck targets, and many military riders got their butts blasted off them. And since they were painted Army green, it eventually translated into modern folklore.

those were harleys ...they used to carry important documents and if you were spotted they would shoot you and steal your paperwork/info.

so since you are getting a kawasaki you should be safe...green is kawasaki's color.
