Where abouts did you go to uni? What did you study (just maths?)?

When you say your favourite subject was abstract algebra, do you mean things like group theory? If so mind going into a bit more detail about what your favourite parts were?
I started out at a local community college. I have two different two-year degrees, one in is an A.A. for English and one is an A.S. for Mathematics. I then transferred to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to work on a B.S. for Applied Mathematics, and while I finished most of my coursework, I had some pretty crazy life circumstances that didn't allow me to finish my degree. Also, my favorite professor died, and that kind of pushed me away from it emotionally. I plan on finishing that up sometime in the next couple of years.

At UNC-G, research in the mathematics department was primarily centered around two things: complex analysis and ring theory. Random tidbit you might appreciate, but I took complex analysis classes under the guy who is credited with what I'm pretty sure is the shortest proof that there are an infinite number of primes (http://primes.utm.edu/notes/proofs/infinite/Saidak.html).

In North America at least, we refer to algebra in two ways. When we just say algebra, we typically mean like middle school math, and when we say abstract algebra or modern algebra, we're referring to the study of structures, etc. I was most attracted to it because of the type of thinking involved that's a lot less concrete than calculus/differential equations/analysis.
