For this particular shark dive in Freeport, you dive in about 40' of water and sit in on the bottom in a half triangle (think an ice cream cone). The man holding the shark has a small can of fishheads and is wearing a metal mesh suit. The sharks (4-6' nurse and reef sharks mostly) know what is coming and start circling him (and us when he moves closer to us). When the sharks go to get a fishhead, he hypnotizes the shark by rubbing its nose; then they freeze (would not have believed it unless I saw it). When the shark starts to sink, he picks it up by his dorsal fin and passes it down the line so you can feel it. Their skin is rough like sandpaper and will cut you if you are not wearing gloves.
While hypnotized and frozen, he can take the shark and stand it on his hand like in the picture. He also put a different shark on his head before it woke up; pretty wild. If you are going to do a shark dive, I can give you the info and I highly recommend this one. Others in the bahamas drop a ball of chum at the surface and you watch a shark frenzy from below. This is more dangerous because of the frenzy. By giving out only fishheads, the sharks stay calm.
Hypnotized shark, lol, didnt know you could do that. Makes you wonder who the first crazy person to try that was.
