trailer for AMC's Preacher has been released: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNgI2sRzr8I

If this show is even half as good as the comics it's going to be fucking tight.

i hate that kid. looks too much like ruxin.

the show looks more like twd type directing than bb type directing.

all i can think of is how preacher aint carvinale

never forget brother justin. also never forget mal and lucius vorenus

i can't speak for the show but the comics are goddamn incredible, they're my absolute favorite. Preacher is more of a crass southern gothic that takes place in the 90s, not exactly lighthearted but definitely different in tone than Carnivale, much more levity.

and Garth Ennis is super super cool. http://www.scifinow.co.uk/interviews...and-loves-war/

fact: fargo is greatest show of all time. step aside breaking bad and the wire.

game of thrones still my favorite for obvious reasons. but not best.
  6. #6
well and firefly but that doesn't qualify as full drama like the other shows.

if im guessing the premise of s3 fargo, it was alluded to in ep6 when the gerhardt grandfather was described as having "built an empire". prohibition era fargo would suit this show very well. not sure what they could do after that. can't just keep going back a generation.

For this reason I'd guess that they'll hop back to the present. Odd seasons will be present day, even seasons period pieces. This gives them infinite present day backstory to explore.

Budget is a factor as well. The more "period" fargo gets, the more money FX will need to spend.

And yeah I agree, it's currently the best thing on TV.

    Man Seeking Woman

If you haven't seen it, don't watch any clips, just go straight to the pilot and thank me later.

    Imdb is rigged

But I don't like the show. To abstract for me

imdb needs to be interpreted. once you know how it functions, it's highly reliable. albeit i only understand it by 80%, not 100%.

I'm not saying it holds up, but the first epidsode is perfection. That is not my opinion, it's a fact.

Don't bother with Man Seeking Woman past episode 1, but episode 1 is still great.

As a kid I've always wanted to be a pilot, and I thought bush pilots had the greatest job in the world. Not anymore:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqkjRxzztJQ

I'm just at episode 2. Unfortunately they're following the reality TV formula which is a shame because I think the material has much more potential. But anyway: it's an interesting series, and I no longer have any desire to become a bush pilot.

So which shit tv shows does everyone watch?

I can't get enough of Cutthroat Kitchen. They follow an obvious formula, it's pretty predictable who wins from the get go, but I get a sick enjoyment out of seeing some chef try to cook pancakes on a tin can with only a tiny candle for heat.

They get boring as fuck but food competition shows are great.

I watched one called something like Donut showdown. Absolutely fantastic. At one point they had to make donuts based on certain themes and they were fucking ridiculous like "The Circus" and "1950".

Season 1 was stellar, every character was interesting and fun to watch. Including the main characters like Karen and Foggy.

Season 2 didnt have as much of a stellar cast, but it still held its own.
  26. #26
Given how poor some of the characters and story elements were in s2 yet how good the season still was, it says a lot about the show.

    Spoiler:
I think they should have redone the whole thing, making the Punisher storyline its own standalone show instead of a Daredevil side story, and bringing in a much better bad guy for the Hand/Elektra storyline.

    The night manager.

Ex soldier now hotel night manager gets recruited to be an undercover agent infiltrating illegal arms trade. 6 episodes. It's pretty great.

I just got into Bob's Burgers. My soon to be Brother-in-law had marathoned a few episodes, I ended up chuckling at a few jokes, and now I'm completely caught up with the show.

I used to think this show was garbage. Now I'm quoting it daily.

I just got into Horace and Pete. From the clips I've seen I thought it was going the direction of the last season of Louie which I didn't enjoy as much, but it's really not. It's like a more refined Lucky Louie which I used to like a lot. I have only watched the second episode and I liked it enough to buy the whole season. Right now I'm super hyped, so I'll recommend it now in case I don't like it as much later. Second episode is amazing.

Second time this year I get baited by one good episode. Watch EP2 of Horace and Pete, and then just watch the youtube highlights and let it be. I'm on EP5 now and it feels like A Serious Man when the rabbi tells the story of Job and all the horrible things that happen and when Larry asks him what his point is the rabbi replies: Who knows! That's Horace and Pete in a nutshell.

Just watched first episode of preacher which is based on the comics if the same name, I think.

    It's awesome.

Dark, violent, satisfying and funny. Characters are interesting, story is intriguing. But most of all, it's fun.

    I recommend.

Stranger Things looks super promising. The first episode starts at my exact date of birth, so that spooked me out before it even started. I'm at EP3 now and so far it's pushing all the right buttons.

So I just marathoned the whole thing. Finale is pretty weak, but it's worth watching if you're nostalgic about series like X-Files and Masters of Horror. It's the most 80's thing you've seen since the 80's. It has smoking inside, wrist watches, people angrily tapping the hook on rotary phones, walkie talkies, BMX bikes... it's glorious.

I need to watch this again, saw it when I was 16ish and it was absolutely fantastic. Are all the episodes on netflix? Iirc the last 3 or so were a ballache to find at the time as they didn't get aired with the rest of the episodes.

Check out Black Mirror on Netflix.

It's an anthology series which explores the darker side of technology in the future. One of my favorite shows in a long long time, don't read anything about it before you watch to get maximum impact.

'The National Anthem' (pig episode) is quite different to the rest of the episodes. I recommend watching S1E2 '15 Million Merits' as it's one of the best imo.

It's almost like black mirror is trying bridge modern ideas from Internet kids with older traditional viewers.

Not watched enough of them to know if that's a fair comment though.

I'm sure I've said this before but when that episode aired I got into a quite heated argument with a girl my mate was seeing about whether you'd fuck a pig to save the queen (I said no) or whether you'd fuck a pig to save a stranger (I said no). The whole time me biting my tongue and not saying well we know *mate* would fuck a pig just for the sake of it.

Also I get the impression it's a bit like big edgy sixth form ideas with money behind them yet shot in a really dated style. That being said apart from maybe another episode and a bit I've not watched any since that episode.

As much as I like Brooker all of the things he has been involved in except the wipe stuff (which declined over the years) has never really done it for me.

    Wow.

So, I turned on season 17 of law and order svu, because why not.

Am I missing something? I feel like these episodes all build a really cool crime and story, but then there is never any climax. There was an episode about police corruption, which ended after they the cops got charged. It seems like they all end with the arrest, and don't show the conclusion. I'm getting so frustrated with it.

Has svu always been like this? I remember watching regular law and order back in the day. The 2nd half of the show was always the legal part, and where all the cool shit got hammered out. Doesn't seem to be the case with svu

I had no idea that the show went 17 seasons. If that's the case, I've probably seen less than 20% of episodes, but yeah, I had the same problem. "regular" law and order was way better in my opinion, because of that 2nd half legal shit. Sam Waterston was the nads.

I got caught up on Homeland. I'm pretty sure it's just a bad show that rewards binge watching, which seems to be a common tactic nowadays that fools people into thinking shows are good.

Can someone explain homeland to me? This is what I see pretty much every episode:

Carrie: "Hey there casual acquaintance, how about you do this extremely risky and possibly illegal favor for me"

other guy: "but national security....but chain of command....but ethics.....but.....

Carrie: "But I need it!! It's the only way I can get what I want!!"

    Other guy: "ooooohhhh, ok"

And then she proceeds to run off on some crazy tangent that jeopordizes the mission and causes all kinds of unnecessary suspense that takes away from the hugely satisfying "good guys chasing bad guys" dynamic.

Despite receiving so many bold favors, she really doesn't' seem to give a shit about anyone but herself. She never repays these favors, and yet everyone keeps bending over backwards for every one of her "crazy schemes". WTF, she's not even that hot.

So should I watch westworld or was it over-hyped?

Also Adventure Time >>>>>>>>>>>>> I find it a hard sell because when I first started watching it I thought it was crap but I genuinely can't overstate how great it is. Obviously any 11 minute episode show has some throwaway episodes and I don't remember the point where it becomes GOAT to get people into it but I've never known a cartoon do so much.

The lich king episodes are godly, Marceline is great, The Ice King goes from one of the most annoying characters to one of the most fleshed out beautifully rewarding characters I can think of in a cartoon.
