I don't think it is GOAT, but one that is hugely underrated: Event Horizon.

As for Avatar... just.. meh... I hate hate hate the art direction of the bluefags. Everything involving a space marine, and the environment (the floating mountains was fucking bananas) is awesome. But every scene that focused on the bluefags made me want to gag.

Glad you like my recs. Rope is a bit old, but it works due to format IMO. I really hate old movies for several reasons, but Rope is the only one from the 40s I like

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is probably my no.2 western. So that's my next rec

I hear Before Sunset is even better than Before Sunrise, but I won't watch it

The Thing was good? It got awful reviews. Also, no Kurt Russel... not sure I can deal with the lack of Kurt.

spoiler alert -->Its not a remake really, but a prequel, so having Kurt there wouldn't really make sense. Though somewhat trashy its still quite watchable, and also a nice addition to the overall story.

Anyways, I watched it, it was fine, but it definitely did not compare to the first one. There was one huge plot hole that I just couldn't get over. Flamethrowers. Why was an Antarctic research station equipped with several flamethrowers? I'm pretty sure that in the Kurt version he jerryrigged one up.

I auto-hate gore. it's worse than michael bay. not because gore is bad in itself, but that suspense and thriller and plot developments of so many different movies are turning into just gore. its like the south park joke where michael bay thinks a plot development is a helicopter going swah swah swah swah, people like to think that plot developments in horrors and even scifis are when something gross and crazy happens

That was my whole fucking point! If you don't like them why do you watch and critique them.
I don't like romantic comedies or historic costume films in space. As a result I have never watched Bridgit Jones Diary or Star Wars, and I will continue to spare the world from my opinion of them.


BTW Prometheus and Iron Sky coming pretty soon. This year is going to be epic! Finally a proper Ridley Scott movie again AND a proper nazi alien movie!

Also, bout them throwers, I'm also pretty sure that black guy in a movie had a Luger, so we can safely assume that people on that station collect some Nazi memorabilia, hence the flamers, etc.

It is a one of a kind movie though. You don't really find campaign/politics movies like this. Only good one I can think of is the docu Street Fight about the Newark mayor Cory Booker

Oh I'm still gonna see it (I tend to exaggerate), but I never pass up an opportunity to hate on the morons in Hollywood.

The trailer gives away several plot points that may or may not be among the most important. One way of putting it is that the trailer creates its own narrative then provides the climax and partial resolution for that narrative. As to how close to the actual movie it is, I don't know. But either way, it's stupid

...where were we? Oh, yes, movie theaters. Watching a movie on the big screen fucking owns. Well, for some movies it doesn't much matter, but for something like The Avengers, or Prometheus, it would be a shame to miss your chance to see it on the big screen. Also, the fact that you have to wait months to see it on DVD(*ahem*rips*ahem*) makes the theater even more attractive.

The prometheus trailer has inspired me to watch the alien trilogy again. Watched the others as a kid so lookin forward to it now.

Avengers looks awful but reviews seem ok and my low expectations will help.

Took a look at melancholia, that Shit just looks depressing as hell.

Looking forward to Batman, but the lack of heath ledger just makes me sad. No new Batman movie Wii be able to compare.

Fans talk a lot about Space Jockey. Not sure what that is, but it was something from Alien, and perhaps the lore has to do with Space Jockey being a different race that discovered the aliens first or something. Prometheus might be about that

ya, from the IMDB page, it says that orginally it was mean to be a direct prequel, then during casting they decided to make it an original piece, and then changed their mind one last time-- it's an "indirect prequel" so like wuf and rong said, it's in the same universe and prior to Alien, but not directly related to it, and there won't xenomorphs.

The Avengers was a really good, funny movie. Hulk was phenomenal even with the different actor, more of the same great things from Ironman, Captain America even felt pretty good in this one compared to his movie. Overall a great film

I Saw the Devil (2010) - IMDb

Just saw this south korean thriller yesterday. It's a profound and sinister story about revenge. At times very hard to watch because of its brutality.

A little too long at 141 min but def worth a watch even if you're not a fan of korean movies. Pretty safe to say you won't get bored, but don't watch if you're sensitive to evil shit.

It's pretty common in korean movies that things are done for maximum drama without bothering to make everything super believable so don't get stuck on that.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy that he has the clout that he does. I mean, Nolan is a boss, but even he had to make three super hero movies to get Inception greenlit. Tarantino just does his thing, and every time he's ready to do it again, he has Keitel's and the Weinsteins' blank checks to do it.
