No, he's not. We don't have any politicians who are the person to do it because no one wants to take ultimate responsibility for it.
And I mean, fair enough. No one wants to take responsibility for a bunch of Mexicans getting shot at the border, especially politicians whose livelihoods are based largely on public perception, and I'm not saying that immediately shooting whoever crosses the border is an optimal solution, but it does address a lot of the current problems (at the cost of creating some new ones).
With that said, I don't think that it would be an unreasonable policy as long as adequate efforts were made to secure the border (including a sufficient physical barrier) and sufficient efforts to communicate the risk in attempting to cross were made so that people wouldn't try to cross without being sufficiently informed of the risk.
There are plenty of places in the world where crossing a border gets you legally shot. There are plenty of places in the United States where crossing a border gets you legally shot. People just have some kind of hang-up with it over this one particular border for some reason.
And before someone pulls out the "applying for asylum" card, you can apply for asylum without coming to the US border.
