10 years of austerity and real-value wages have dropped every single year since the Tories took over. I would worry about their economics if I were Joe Public, not labour's.

This comes back to our disagreement about "competence". I think they have very skilfully convinced the public that such measures are necessary. People think they have a choice between austerity or magic money tree. Think you're giving them too much credit for being 3D chess masters here. Rupert Murdoch is the one convincing people the Tories are good. It's no different than Fox News convincing 40% of Americans Trump was their saviour. It's not anything they're doing themselves obviously. Part of it too is like you say Boris can come across as a likeable guy, and none of his predecessors had any charisma whatsoever.
