The show even recognizes Walt's luck with Jesse's important line to Hank. I think the reason why you feel this way is because the chips have been down for Walt for the last half of the season and his short term luck makes such a 180 in the finale, and for that I agree with you a little.
You could be right, as I don't remember. But part of my point is that Walt's past luck is spread out; whereas in the finale, he's unloading from the hip and hitting nothing but bullseye
I was somewhat let down by the episode. I think the characters were too mired in despair brought on over the last few episodes for such a neat and clean ending. I think a bittersweet ending would have been a little more appropriate. For example, what would people have thought if instead of catching a stray, Walt is completely unscathed after the Nazi attack, but Jesse still can't bring himself to forgive him and shoots him, then Vince Gilligan credits?
I think that detracts from what they wanted to say about Walt. This was never supposed to be Jesse's story, and they showed that by giving Walt the full resolution and redemption while kicking Jesse down the hill. Your way would have been better in a David Simon way, but for Gilligan, the story starts and ends with Walt
