I think I'd rather the Saints lose every game than the Panthers win every game

I was praying for the lolz that would come if the Saint's kicker fucked them over.

Wow, that's really going out on a limb there. Most fans of super bowl champs are not willing to make such a bold prediction.

    Forgot we had this thread.

So I have a question: How much money do you think changes hands each year in the name of the NFL?

Sigh. Nice game Houston. Pressure + running game is pretty much the exact formula for beating the Colts.

Run, run, run, field goal. Thanks for the memories ATL.

edit, I meant missed field goal, then ????, profit.

Honestly, it probably saved up because Matty Ice is overdue for a Hail Mary.

So the franchise QB hurts his throwing shoulder and the team gets screwed out of a win because of some complete bullshit technicality rule. great to have the fucking NFL back

Well, he caught the ball, got two feet down, rolled on the ground, then was recognized to be wearing a Lions jersey - no catch. Pretty obvious call to me.

NFL Videos: Calvin Johnson, not a TD

If this is not considered a TD in the NFL, then I don't want to be a football fan anymore. Go soccer, F all you hand egg fans.
  23. #98
congrats hstn guys. now expect to make the playoffs, run into Indy, they will blow out shcaub's knee, and you can go back to being miserable.

totally don't get that call against detroit - does this mean you should absolutely late hit everyone who catches a ball in the end zone? Like surely if someone had hit him say right before the ball touched the ground while in his hand, it would have been both a TD and a late hit penalty? does not compute

What exactly is the ruling that made this incomplete? Sorry.

Catching the ball is one complete motion. So they're allowed to find anything in that motion that they feel makes it incomplete to call it incomplete.

Polamalu rolled and started to run with the ball kneed it out from his hand and that was constituted part of the catching motion.

Johnson caught the ball, fell to his ass and while getting up, placed the ball on the ground and that was constituted part of the catching motion.

"A player who goes to the ground in the process of attempting to secure possession of a loose ball [with or without contact by a defender] must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, there is no possession. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, it is a catch, interception or recovery."
  28. #103
I realize the refs made the "correct" call if you go by the exact wording of the rule. But it's a stupid fucking rule that needs to be changed. Like I said, if that play wasn't a TD in the NFL, then fuck the NFL

Thankfully the controversy is good for football because we'd never be talking about the Lions game with out it. I see no reason to change anything.

he did not complete "the process of the catch". from what the fox rules guy was saying, you more or less have to stand up in the end zone after a catch where you go to the ground with the ball to be sure.

Cannot imagine how pissed I would be if I was Bob.

is there a dumber play than having the WR/RB throw it? The guy is like never open.
  34. #109
    YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAAAAAAAAWWWWWKS!!!!!

    WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I know the 49ers aren't a great team, but just about everyone had them picked to win the division (including me) and we just destroyed them today with almost an entirely new roster.

After throwing a pick on our first offensive play Hasselbeck was almost perfect. Mike Williams with another huge catch and run, looking every bit as promising as he did in the preseason. Our run defense was looking impressive keeping Frank Gore in check all day. We were getting constant pressure on the QB with only 4 rushing.

    I'm completely surprised.

I will say that in part it was due to Alex Smith's sucking balls and they had two rookies starting on their OL in the loudest stadium in football.

I don't expect we'll look this good against everyone and we are such a young team there will be some mistakes that will cost us. Our lack of running game is gonna hurt us eventually too. I'm not suddenly picking us to win 10 games.

But I'm drinking the koolaid now!!

I'll be even more impressed if we look anything like this on the road next week in Denver.

I can't wait to see what Carroll and company can do with another offseason of bringing in their type of guys.

I'm a longtime bears fan (but missed this game, I only got to watch Tebow), and I got to say that is the worst bullshit call I've ever seen. Ever.

I felt bad for the Lions, surprisingly good game to watch though. With Stafford all game they would have beaten the Bears, and they played very hard. The call at the end was tough.

I am psyched about the Packers. Even on a day where they looked out of synch most of the game on Offense and with Vick playing them hard on Defense, they still put up 27 pts. and beat the Eagles on the road by 7.

Vick played balls to the wall today. With Kolb having a concussion, I'd be surprised if it was an insta-decision to start Kolb next game.

Honestly, the Eagles offense rallied so hard behind him. I'd be inclined to let him start the next game if I was Reid. I mean, you already broke Westbrook by having him come back too soon after a concussion; why do the same thing to Kolb?

Plus, it's fun watching Mike Vick do his thing.

I just want to reconvey my luhls that the entire league hates the lions so much that they dig way deep into the rule book to find some silly obscure rule just to fuck them over.

Yea it was pretty sick watching Vick tear it up after Kolb got knocked out. He wants his shot at starting in the NFL again, and if he might have just gotten it with his performance last night.
  49. #124
cowboys/skins game may've been the wildest game ever in which only a cumulative 20 pts were scored.
  50. #125
If Kolb is hurt Vick might want to temper back the scrambling, he took some good shots

    say whaaat?

If he'd run that third down in instead of trying to pass to the back of the end zone, that is a TD at least 80% of the time. If anything, he needs to run MORE.

I didn't mean run less, but run smarter

that lick he took on the long run was stupid, he wasn't getting in the end zone and bailing out would have cost him no yardage

Same concerns for the Packers, though they won obv.

Ya, they sure could of used Vjax, he's suspended for 3 games anyway. Chiefs triple team Gates and no one on the Chargers was consistently stepping up.

@Kevster, you have money on them to win the division? I think they will. Chiefs scores came from 3 big plays. KC didn't show that they could actually drive the ball on offense. Idk why the fuck the don't give Jamaal Charles more touches they were using him primarily as a third down back wtf. He's basically Chris Johnson Midwest. Oya, letting Matt Cassel throw the ball on downs other than 3rd and actually trying to score after you are up 14 would be nice too. Run, run, run punt almost lost us the game.

They should win the division, but they aren't really an elite team because their defense is pretty bad.

Yeah, the least talked about loss from SD is Jamal Williams. That man was a god at the nose, and the Chargers D aren't going to be the same without someone that has at least 90% of his ability.

Is it just a fact that all football is played in the trenches but everyone talks about everyone else? An awesome O-line will propel QBs and RBs; an awesome D-line will make everyone behind them look like superstars.

Thanks for the advice guys. Will sit it out for a couple more games and review. I'm in on the exchanges so can get out at any stage (unless they really go south).

What about the Packers (to reach the later stages)? They're strong favourites overall on the markets.

i'd generally agree with the overriding point here, but you should watch some browns games. strong o-line (thomas, steinbach, mack), horrible offense. this tends to happen when your qb sucks and all of your WRs/TEs/RBs are mediocre (at best).

but we've already seen in the recent past that in almost all cases, poor QB play = bad offense and usually = bad team.

The Packers will definitely be in the playoffs this year and have a legitimate shot at making it to the NFC Championship, really doubt they make it to the Superbowl and win it though.

The Saints, Vikings, and maybe the Cowboys have a better chance of that.

Packers are the NFC favorite afaik. I'd say Packer ~ Saints > Cowboys > Vikings.

Watch out for the giants. The 49ers should be good but they sucked week 1.

Meh, if they're the NFC favorite then they must have had a really shit Week 1 like the 49ers. They didn't show a whole lot to me vs the Eagles. Those are just my w/e predictions.
