Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to let go of my Chase Freedom card. 1% cash back (and 5% in some categories) is >>> than cashback given to me at my credit union.

However, people with bad credit may have an easier time getting a credit card at their local credit union.

Serious question, what is it that you love about your Credit Unions? Political agenda aside, I get free checking and a great web interface at one of the big banks.

You may not be hit by fees but others get smacked by fees left and right.

Credit unions barely have any hidden fees. I like my credit union because there is no incoming wire transfer fee, no overdraft fee, etc. I can't think of one big bank that doesn't screw their customers over with tons of fees.

Money sitting in my checking account is money not gaining interest. I sometimes forget to deposit checks or sometimes transfers transfer late. Luckily, I haz overdraft and nothing bounces.

Btw, my credit union's credit card apparently doesn't charge me balance transfer, cash advance, or annual fees. Also, the APR is equal for cash advance, payments, etc. That's unheard of at any other bank.

I think the divides between liberals and conservatives is mostly artificial. We've been pitted against each other by politicians and media, but when it comes down to it, we pretty much believe the same stuff, and sometimes have a different perspective on how to explain those beliefs. They say OWS is a liberal thing, but it's not because conservatives also understand that our politicians are bought by the corporations and that the banks are thieves. I think OWS is bringing out a lot more libertarian and conservative types than people say, and that is one of the most important parts of what makes change.

I feel that a whole shitload of people know what's up, but only have just started doing something about it. This is the start of a new civil rights movement.

So I decided that im going to occupy wall street in new york next Thursday. I am going show up with a back pack and not much else and see how long I can stay there. I am doing this for all the wrong reasons, but I think I will have a cool experience and I will share it with all of you.

It's not really it being dirty. It's the people. There are tons of homeless there using it as shelter (which I'm not against). Also, there were many protesters that definitely haven't showered in a while. It's really not a good representation of the message because, if I didn't know any better, I'd just think that they were a bunch of lazy hippies that didn't want to get a job and were complaining (much as the media portrays them).

I was at occupy walk street for about 5 hours. There are significant differences among the people. The true leaders don't live there. Or I should say the political leaders don't. The ones that run food system/security and information do. It isn't as dirty or as smelly as I thought it would be. There are a few drunks, but it is fairly contained. The smell of pot is present, but does not hang heavy in the air. Most of that, including the drunks are east side of the park. The General Assembly is on the north. The political process is interesting but it has been taken over by people who know how to lead and there is a semi formal system.{spam link}


While I was listening to a proposal to send 25 delegates to Egypt, a new person hippie looking started yelling and saying how we shouldn't be spending 29k on this. He disrespected the process but their own security contained him within 15 minutes.{spam link}

Consenus type government does not have a future. I may support some of there ideas, but this revolutionary system cannot get anything done. There are too many factions and the blocking of any real proposal is too easy. I'm not putting this for debate here, but more stating it as fact so if I am wrong there is a record.{spam link}

I was asked for money "for a friend" who has stomach problems and needs a pot brownie. Now my sample size is small I'm confident that he is part of the minority (15%) or less. Again most of the people who provide food, real information, power and comfort are legit.{spam link}

I did not stay the night, since I came unprepared. If I was truly committed I could have asked for blankets and would have received them, but I felt like a phony. I was also fairly cold and wet, as I'm writing this from my 175/night hotel room. {spam link}

I also met a few cool people one kid was 16 and an other was a laid off history teacher from DC. But I'll save that story for another time.

First off I don't know a whole lot about it, other than what I'm getting from MSM and I also am working to be 'the man' that everyone is rallying against, but that is based on incomplete knowledge of the platform. I think that's all fair considering that you can't hear about OWS unless it's filtered through anything from word-of-mouth to the MSM. And like everything in politics, keeping it atleast a yardstick away is good move.

Plus it has gone on so long now that no one seems to care any more one way or another.

This, however, isn't. The longer it goes on, the more impactful it becomes on the national conversation. Remember how the Tea Party transformed Town Hall meetings into shout-fest mad-houses? I think you can see the OWS-effect in the shift from debt worries and cost slashing towards job creation and unReaganizing taxes.

In any case, I continue to be very impressed by the occupy movement, and I hope it continues.
