The guy is obviously a beast of a player, but I still think he should be out of the league.

    He's just passionate.

And more importantly can someone explain to me how the Redskins can sign Haynesworth to a 41mil guaranteed contract and Hall to 21mil gt'd with only 8mil in available cap space? Is this like a soft cap just for Daniel Snyder's team or did he just buy the cheap ass Chiefs remaining cap space from them.

I am a Redskins fan and I am not very overwhelmed with the acquisition of Albert Haynesworth for several reasons:

    1) The Skins have a history of getting high priced big name free agents and they ALL have been busts. This could easily be Dana Stubblefield, the sequel.
    2) Headstomp. I mean, really. Our team may not be the best but we have classy players and Haynesworth clearly does not fit the bill.
    3) Our defense is not the problem as we were 4th last year and have been solid since 2004.
    4) Haynesworth had some very good company on Tennessee's line and he may not really be as good as advertised.

I am glad we retained Deangello Hall since he is the only DB we have that can actually catch the ball (pretty sure we led the league in dropped INT's with like 20), but dumping Shawn Springs seems dumb as hell. He had some injury issues last year but he was still probably the best cover corner we have. If any corner shoulda got dumped its Fred Smoot because he can't really do much other than run his mouth, and watching him try to tackle is a laugh.

Actually, Haynesworth's deal is actually essentially 4 years 48 million because there's some "poison pill" (yes i hate this term but thats hat they call it) that makes the base salary so big in the 5th year that they have to cut him with not too much penalty (at least thats what my impression is from what i've read).

Yeah, that's pretty good for KC. I actually buy the argument that Cassell is a system QB, and KC's new HC Todd Haley is not a system coach.

Hell I doubt that he could understand a system as complicated as
    1 insert coin
    2 twist knob
    3 get candy.

Let ALONE a complicated football system. He's a vertical attack guy not a system guy.

I think Cassell will be good in KC, but not great.

B-Dawk in Orange and Blue. I am NOT happy about that. HE's leaving Philly because he can't shed blockers without help, how in the world is he supposed to thrive in a 3-4?

Yeah I would of just stuck with Thigpen in the "Arrowspread" offense, but I guess I don't mind giving up a second rounder for Vrabel and Cassel. Would of been pissed if we gave up our first pick. Looks like we will take Curry now.

Let me get this straight. Pioli "player personnel" can find a guy the quality of Matt Cassel in round 7, but we give up a 2nd rounder and have to pay this guy franchise type money for a "good" QB. I hope he's better than just good.
I've never been a fan of the new regime going after the old players to make a winner. Not a big fan of it now. But if Parcells can make it work in MIA, maybe??

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Jay Cutler is upset after his name was involved in convoluted trade talks involving Matt Cassel.

Before the Pats traded Cassel to the Chiefs, the Bucs, Lions, and Broncos became entwined in the talks. Tampa called Denver about a three-way deal that would have sent Cassel to the Broncos and Cutler to the Bucs. The Lions also knocked on Denver's door about Cutler with Cassel as potential bait, but the Broncos turned down both offers after "entertaining the notion." Schefter was clear that the Broncos only fielded calls and did not instigate talks.

Well, trading for Cassel is safer than taking some guy on the second day. We also have a tonnnn of cap space, so I don't think it's too big of deal to pay him.

Vrabel is a veteran who will bring leadership to the Chiefs, and lord knows we need LBs especially since some genius decided we are going to run the 3-4. I'd say KC has two decent LBs in Vrabel and Derrick Johnson and then two huge holes to fill (hopefully not with Rocky Boiman and Pat Thomas ). Also, wtf is our defensive line going to look like? They say Dorsey (1s round pick last year!) is too small for nose guard and too slow for end. Hali is worthless without a premiere pass rusher on the opposite end. Turk McBride lol. I guess fat ass Tank Tyler is going to be our nose guard.

Idk when the last time a LB went top 3 and I would rather get Crabtree, but we will take Curry because of his great combine and our desperation for LBs .

i think Cassel to the Chiefs for a 2nd round pick is pretty f'ing awesome for the Chiefs... you aren't likely to win Championships with Thigpen, no matter how much fun it might be to watch. A high 2nd round pick is squaadoosh when you think about C-Pep broken was traded to Dolphins for a 2nd round pick.. A.J. Feeley was traded for a 2nd round pick.. and Matt Schaub was traded for TWO 2nd round picks.

With all the cap space the Chiefs don't have enough players to spend that money on... it's a ridiculous good pick up.

lol at the Chiefs getting both of those guys for a 2nd round pick

does this make us a contender? heck no, but at least we've got a good chance at getting to .500 and an outside chance at a playoff spot next year. wow.

Agree... there simply aren't enough guys currently on the roster worth the kind of cap space the Chiefs have available... and the FA pool isn't all that sexy either. Kind of surprised they didn't make a play at one of the bigger OL guys... but this is just a huge huge win for dem chiefs.

I think Cassel proved last year he can compete at the professional level and complete reasonably well. Vrabel is old and needed to be replaced but I think we should have gotten a little more considering we don't know wtf is going to happen next season with Brady.

it's motherfucking TOM BRADY, what the eff do you think is going to happen? he's going to be TOM BRADY, that's what.

p.s. kind of ironic that Cassel was given a chance to play b/c of Pollard's hit on Brady, now they're going to be teammates. I think he should at least buy him dinner once or twice.

Yea 17 mil for 5 years is a lot when you consider he isn't gonna play 5 more seasons. On the other hand the Broncos safteys are so bad that having an experienced leader back there will be a huge help. Our secondary is pretty solid if they can stay healthy, our linebackers are good now lets hope we can get some D-lineman

    B-Dawk only got 7.2 guaranteed.

Effectivley it's 7.2 mill for 2 seasons if the Broncos exercise his 2nd year poison pill.

Thats a false statement, I just read the transcript of the interview. The real question is who the fuck does Josh McDaniels think HE is? He comes in succeeding a 2 time super bowl coach and proceeds to attempt to dismantle the only thing the team has going for it? Trading Cutler (a much better prospect) for Cassel only because hes comfortable with Cassel and Cassel knows his system? Its ludacris and is creating a huge rift between the fans and the new head coach.

I love Dawk as much as any die-hard Iggles fan. He plays with heart, every down, every game. But there's no denying that he hasn't just lost a step, he's lost several. He wasn't even really playing safety in passing situations late this season, he was usually closer to the line either blitzing or covering underneath. $7.5M guaranteed is absurd for him. I would have been pissed if the Iggs matched that offer. Banner & Reid are cutthroat when it comes to cutting veterans loose but their track record doing it is great. This is a brutal league where the average career lasts 3.5 years and even the best players' abilities decline quickly after a certain age. Banner & Reid get that and it's one of the reasons the Eagles have been good pretty consistently for so long.

All that being said, I hope Dawk proves me wrong and earns every incentive dollar in his contract.

Its a business dude, in which players are commodities, much like we use chips.
You trade them if you can get a larger amount in return. No need to go all cry baby over possibly being traded, just because you made the probowl last year.
Plus, his numbers sucked, but so did many QBs, so I shouldn't complain there.

If you as a player are so fucking good, nobody in their right mind will ever try to trade you. So suck it up and become better and/or start winning games, then shed tears. Simple.

And warner wants to go to SF

WTF? He's 37, and SF has no receivers, only Vernon Davis

All Zona needs this year is good players deep (At CB, FS, SS, assuming Cromartie got better), and two new, fresh, young running backs who can hold onto the ball to share the backfield with Edge (if he's stilll around), and they can repeat their improbable run again.

KC should get Ray Lewis, Houshmanzadah, and spend their first five picks on lineman (specially defensive) and defenders. Boom, 2010 AFC champions IMO.

Wow.. he's about 3 years too late to be competitve and go searching for a ring. I figgured for sure TJ would be looking to the NFC East.

    hey fuck you too

anyone that doesnt realize last year was a fluke didn't pay any attention, and over the last few years we've shown ourselves to be one of the better teams in the NFC.

things could change with a mostly new coaching staff, but i'm pleased with how things are going.

Now I'm torn on if we should still look to take crabtree (him with TJ, and branch and burleson can contribute if they ever get healthy) or take the best LT available to be walter jones' eventual replacement

Agreed Spenda this is highly active... big name signings and such. The # of trades (and quality of player in those trades) seems to increase each year as well. In my mind it's the beauty of the salary cap... unfortunately it's also due to the influence of sky-rocketing high first-rounder contracts. The NFL needs slotted contracts like the NBA in a very very bad way.... but for fans, it's fun as hell to watch the movement.

In addition to all these guys.. names like Peppers, Gonzo, larry Johnson, LT, etc are being bandied about in further trade talks. I love it all...

Also J. Taylor got cut... he may be just a cog at this point.. but still.. pretty nice cog.

He's a dependable guy who will help whoever signs him. He is old, but speed was never part of his game anyways. Hasselbeck has always said that Engram was his favorite receiver on the team.

Hey, hey, hey!!! The Lions might be looking to shore up the defense for once this year which would be AMAZING imo.

Traded Kitna for Cowboys Anthony Henry.
Also picked up CB Eric King. (Not that King is anything SPECTACULAR, but I mean come one, its the LIONS defense we're talking so its better than nothing, amirite?)

Also, we dropped frickin Dan Orlovsky (thank God).

So we finally might be looking to do something other than make history for being the most suck ass team in history .

Lions getting rid of two quarterbacks and picking up two DB's = hell just froze over.

Lions should send the 1st pick to Denver for Jay Cutler

At least they'll know what they're getting for once

You think he should be out of the league for making one mistake? People make mistakes. You must also be someone that thinks that someone that takes steroids should have an all-time ban from that sport?

no no no...they should draft crabtree, or some other top WR like they do every single year!. Rogers? Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson...who's next on the list???

What an original joke, I've never heard anything like it.

    seriously tho Bob

would you take Cutler for the #1 pick?
  70. #70
Yah for sure, I was hoping they would trade the pick for either him or Cassel. I think that it's pretty obvious that having either of them would be better than having Stafford right now.

Lions should pick up Cutler if they can for their #1 overall. Ludicrous to think that they could pick up a better play in the draft that would instantly make them better.

That being said, Denver would be stupid to give up Cutler for the #1 overall. Who's going to play QB for them?!?! Firing Shanahan was a bad, BAD move.

Also, Antonio Smith to the Texans! WOOOOOOT! And Orvlovsky at backup! (no safety dance please). Can't wait to see the new Texans defense with a more aggressive playing personality sans the dead weight (Weaver, Greenwood) and with a competent DE opposite Mario. Soooo many times Mario was just INCHES or fractions of a second away from the QB. If Antonio can even just move the QB those woeful INCHES, we will be awesome!

    GO GO GO TEXANS!

yup, this wasn't just a punch or brawl or anything, he stomped on the guys unprotected face with his cleats. the injury could have been much worse than it was. this was beyond fucked up.

and as far as steroids, there's not a whole lot that can be done about the past. I think the leagues should give all players until april 1 (for example) to come clean about any past steroid use and avoid punishment. Any clear evidence of drug use beyond that day leads to instant lifeban. This should be a clear incentive to stay off the stuff. This issue needs to be treated like MLB treats gambling.

See I wouldn't mind this I guess, but if the Lions don't (and they probably won't because it IS the Lions) trade away the #1 pick, who here likes Aaron Curry from the Deacons?

Between Sims (probably best defensive player we have) and Curry at LB, that could be the starting foundation for a halfway decent defense. Then with #20 overall pick take either a D-Line guy (preferably pass rushing end) or an O-Line (Tackle most likely there).

    Thoughts?
