Default Next Step: Best option on computer???

So I decided im either going to buy one or two of the samsung 204b's (depending on my desktop). Now my second question: What's my best bet on a cheap desktop that's not going to lagg when i run PAHUD, 8 tables, PT, etc?

I'm betting I can get one in the $500 range if not less.

if you are on stars you can 9 table on 1 of the 20" monitors
i think the 24" won't offer anything more than stroking the ego

I realize but allowing myself to have bigger tables will help me focus on all the action.

go with 2 of the 20" monitors
the 24" will still be the same size tables just extra cost and a little wasted space

    No hindsight for the blind.
I have 2*20" and wish that at least one of them was a 24". The little extra space would be sweet for placing HH's, player notes, scripts, msn chat (-EV) and various other crap.

My solution: get a 30" this summer to go with one of the 20" (or possibly both? that would be sweeeet).

From a FPP:$$$ equity perspective, the 24" monitor is over priced by ~$400. The 20" is overpriced by ~$100. In Stars defense, the prices of electronics continually decrease. They dropped the price of the 20" from 36,000 FPPs which was what it was when I got one through them last June to 28,000 a couple months ago to reflect the lower retail price. They have not dropped the FPP price of the 24" monitor though since they first started offering it. It's way overpriced. Consider that a 30" monitor from Dell is worth ~86,000 FPPS.

Unfortunately Stars isn't offering any gift certificates to US players that would allow you to purchase a monitor yourself. Strictly in terms of equity, your best option would be to save up 186,000 FPPs and use the concierge service to get a gift certificate to amazon or wherever and purchase a monitor(s) that way.

FPPs are essentially rakeback if used properly. I'd hate so see you throw away several hundred dollars. It's like the people that purchase a TV with FPPs when they could just get OneCall gift certificates and get the same TV for much less.
TheXianti: (Triptanes) why are you not a thinking person?

So wait.... I mean i could just use the FPP's for the cash rakeback. What do you think is the best deal on a good monitor (assuming i already get one when I buy a new desktop as part of the package)?

you mini raised, therefore you desereve whatever you get....

If you want it to 8-table I'd go with 2 Samsung 204b's for the most bang for your buck.

IMO, don't skimp on the PC. You could get an eMachine, but they don't hold up.

Pick a namebrand and get something decent. I gateway FWIW.

I have 2 of these. I think they are very good. I had a problem with dead pixels on one of them so I rang up Samsung. Within 2 days someone came to my door with a brand new one and took away the broken one. Excellent service.

I also love my 204b. I probly paid too much for mine though, i think around $450 about 8 months ago. It was worth it though, and definately the best upgrade ive made to my computer.

I have a 5+ year old AMD with a 204B that I can easily 6 table on with HUD. The video card will be the most important due to wanting dual monitors. Pretty much anything else you buy will handle the load. I would also put XP on it and not Vista. XP is more stable. I can price you out a system from Tiger Direct if you want.

    Hey guys,

ISF, did you end up buying this monitor from here?
If yes, how do you like it?

Also, did you buy a new computer?

The reason I ask is because I am now in the market for a new computer/monitor.

I was also wondering about this.
If I am wanting to 8 table on the Ongame network (very slow software) I am going to need my computer to be quite fast. Will Vista slow my computer down if I am running something like this:

    Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Dual Core 512k Cache AM2

    Memory: 2GB Kingston KVR667D2N5K2/2G DDR2 667Mhz Kit RAM

    Mainboard: Asus M2N-E-SLI SKT.AM2 NF500 SLI 2PCI/2P

Hard Drive: WD 250GB SATA II 8MB 7200rpm

    Video: MSI GeForce NX8600GT-T2D256E 256MB DDR3

    Thanks in advance.

I was about to order the monitor a few nights a ago when i realized that it takes 4-6 weeks to ship and im not that patient. I'm going to go to a computer store I think and buy one because I'm impatient about shipping. Hopefully I can get some good rebate deal.
If not I'm relooking into the computer you sent me and a dell.

4-6 weeks? Ordering from stars? Didnt dnuts explain how thats massively -ev?

204b's are the sure shot, I have two and I absolutely love them. As for a computer yah probably around 500$ or so. I built mine with a then top of the line graffics card for a lil less than 1500 I think, graffics card costing 500$. This was somewhere around junior year of highschool. So 3-4 years ago. Also my computer overheated a summer or two ago, the only way I can get it to run stable (without spontaneous reboots) is to underclock the processor. My computer can get bogged down a bit when 8tabling and doing a bunch of other things, but its never much of a problem. Any newer processor with a gig of ram should do you just fine.
You-- yes, you-- you're a cunt.

Im looking purchase a second monitor as well. I already have one 204b and would like a second monitor with 1200x1600 resolution at least. Browsing circuit city i found this monitor:

if its only for poker, buy a new dell dual core. they are dirtcheap, and you don't need a very goodvideocard.
    2gb ram will be plenty.
on the screens, i'd recommend dell's 24" wide. hp's and viewsonics are fine too.
