Only when I manually re-sync the word counts, which I do on occasion, but not very often.

I've decided that since I will not be posting until I'm totally baller that I'll provide all sorts of great poker related content here, because, let's face it, my knowledge is far superior to yours, yea, I'm talking to you there, no you, behind the jewtastic twins standing next to the shemale holding Todd Brunson's trashbag-wearing boyfriend.

When this thread becomes chalk-full of great poker thought I'll have X-man release it into the wild, and that will be my contribution to this great site.
  14. #14
I just realized that 'rilla would hate me forever if poker content is in this thread, and since I don't want a quarter-ton beast hunting me down, I'll just place weird thoughts in here from time to time.

As for now, you guys can start by telling me how much you dislike me, in a humorous way, you know, kinda like a roast.

Were you SEC'd on your date?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this new term SEC'd to an Ohio State fan means bitch slapped and sent back home.

Went pretty well, he ghosted me for an hour and then I did the same for him, watching him play some 400nl HU (I was playing 100nl 6max).

I'm going to start working with him again, as soon as I can figure out what I'm actually doing with my poker-life.

you got my by 2.5ish at my peak. i never got to scratch. i got to .8. i couldnt carry a 5 anymore, though.

for anyone unfamiliar with just how good the plus side is...it sounds like its only 2 strokes better than scratch, but its soooooo much more than that. shaving half a stroke at this level takes the work of shaving 20 off a guy who cant break 100. maybe more.

i have a great friend on the the old Hogan Tour. cant remeber the name currently. when i was under a one, he was just on the plus side, and i couldnt carry his jock on my best day.

true story. he went to Southern Hills after the Open, not PGA, but the Open, and played Monday after the pros finished. he couldnt break 85. he four putted twice. and said he thought the average single digit handicapper couldnt break 90 on that setup.

i'd like to see how you compare with him now. he cant find his way to the big show, but i dont know where you would stand against tour players, either. +2 is really bringing it, but i bet you still have a good bit of work to do to survive even a minitour currently? what do you think, spenda?

I couldn't make in on a mini-tour at my peak. It's a different animal playing for a paycheck.

Career-low 64 twice, one was a 29-35, lol back 9 chokeaments. I was 5 under through 5 and kind of just held on. Bogeyed a 310yd Par 4 that I went for when I was already 8 under. Hit in in the drink, couldn't save par, birdied 18 for the course record though.

For you golfers, here's one of my latest swings I have on video.

Follow-through was a bit cutoff (video-wise), I had been working on flattening out my arm swing at the top of my backswing, pretty good spot there: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZUtvUQLckhM

yeah, not bad. you have Nicklaus' "flying elbow" cranking away. not as bad as i've seen. if you want to flatten this out, and i know you know this already, put that towel under your armpit. or, use Percy Boomer's "Turn in a Barrel" drills.

i dont mind how upright you are one bit. when i saw the swing i thought, "and you want to flatten that?" you looked kind of flat to me already. but, it may be the takeaway leading me to see it differently. when i stopped the vid at the top, you were in a pretty good "slot."

and, i cant tell from the vid, but it didnt look like your hands are as quick as i was expecting. i thought you would have more "cock" in your wrists closer to impact. its not too bad, i just thought there'd be more. the vid runs real slow, though, so i had to stop and start to see where your position was near impact. i'm sure you've seen this, too, but if you look at Phil, DL III, Tiger, etc, they are still greater than 90 degrees when their arms are parallel to the ground on the way down. yours are about 90. when Phil, etc get to about their knees, they are still 90 degrees or better. you are already releasing your hands. that's a super bitch to add to the swing, but it will add tons o' yardage. i dont know, however, how far you hit your driver or 5 iron. you may have plenty of length.

    ahh, the magic of vids.

as long as we are comparing records, i havent shot 64, but i have carded several 66's. had two 29's. one with a course member (of course that makes it legit).

the other 29 was on a 35. front side very much target golf. very short and full of doglegs and trees. lots of wedges. should have shot 28 or 29 a handful of times, but only did once. the highlight shot...dogleg left about 320, but unreachable because of trees. i tried anyway (after all i was HOT that day). i skullied one right off the tee. didnt even make it 100 yds. i am up against the trees that are solid forest forming the dogleg. i pull out the one-iron, say to myself, "F*** it. i'm going for it." and pull it off. i run about a 230 yd low running hook that hugs the edge of the trees, rolls up between the two front traps perfectly and sits about 4 feet from the cup. i drop the friggin putt for bird. stupidest "hero" shot i ever hit. obviously, neither of my 29's were in competition.

as for the first 29, i never played the back side. didnt have time.

as for the second, talk about your backninechokeaments. i played the back the second day, as i was pretty burned on golf and only playing 9 per day. but, i wanted to "count" it since it looked like an easy shot at what i could say was the "real" course record. i fired the big ole 39. a 29/39!! the course record was quite safe, even in my imagination. lol.

God, i miss golf right now.

    Not bad? Harsh crowd.

That's about as good as your going to see me swing a club. Remember this Chopper, it's not a "flying" elbow UNLESS the right elbow is higher than the left at the top. Watch it again, you'll see what I'm talking about.

As for "lag" I think you're talking about in the downswing. I tend to release the club really really hard, and maybe a bit earlier then those guys.

Judge for yourself, I swing a 6-iron 92 mph and driver 112-115. Those are right around tour averages if not slightly higher.

112-115 is higher. like i said, i couldnt tell by the poor quality in the vid. you need high speed stuff for smooth slow motion stuff.

i think tour avg is around 109ish? i know a 5 iron is 85ish. and, you said your 6 is 92. thats stiff. so, you carry your 6 about 185-190? what do you do with your 110 yd sandy? what do you do when laid up to 85 on accident? do you carry a 3rd wedge? and, if so, what did you sacrifice to get it in your bag? fairway metal? 2 iron?

hell, i cant get a 5 out 180 consistently anymore. i used to get it about 190, but never my 6.

you are definitely releasing early, but if you are 112+, you have to. your hands are strong and quick enough. again, i am just pointing out what i saw in the vid. obv, i would need to watch a live show to tell you anything definitive. and, anything i would tell you, i promise you would already know. leadbetter, i am not.

as for the flying elbow, i always understood it to be when the right was "off your body" not above the left, but yours makes more sense. you got me swinging in my living room...testing it out. lol.

hell, i cant get a 5 out 180 consistently anymore. i used to get it about 190, but never my 6.

you are definitely releasing early, but if you are 112+, you have to. your hands are strong and quick enough. again, i am just pointing out what i saw in the vid. obv, i would need to watch a live show to tell you anything definitive. and, anything i would tell you, i promise you would already know. leadbetter, i am not.

as for the flying elbow, i always understood it to be when the right was "off your body" not above the left, but yours makes more sense. you got me swinging in my living room...testing it out. lol.
4 wedges, PW, GW, SW, LW. A 54 bent down to 52 to take some bounce. All vokey spin-milled with spinner shafts (guess I want to zoink it back like the guys on tour). I carry an r7 TP driver, Sonartec 3wd, and Titleist 19 degree hybrid, no 3-iron in the bag.

The video equip I use in lessons is very high speed, downloading the swings from the internet and putting them on youtube tends to screw them up. Also, that vid is playing at 40% speed (I always forget to mention that).

if I think of something great to write about or a cool topic I'll crack, otherwise it's going to be some time.

The only reason he's not jonesing to post anywhere else, is becasue he has plenty to post about on Grinderschools forums. I can't wait to be baller enough to head down and play some golf with you. I suck, I shoot mid 80's and that's mostly because I play about 6 times a year, because it's a 6 month game up here and you start getting into it and have to stop.

funny thing, though, TJ. i have had more success teaching hockey players than baseball players. the swings seem to transfer better, fundamentally. probably swing plane. also, prolly why you can play half a dozen times a year and crack 90.

spenda, 4 wedges blows my mind. but, i'm old school, too. kind of Tom Watson where i wish the SW was illegal. kind of kidding, kind of not.

sounds like a good mixture. i LOVE vokeys. and, with your swing speed, i'm surprised you have a 3 wood most days. i would think you would carry a weak-3/ strong -4 and push that hybrid to 20+. surely, you arent lacking in distance. you just dont want significant gaps in your yardages once you get inside about 220.

I have three, PW, GW, SW and a LW. The LW is a 64 so not much use in that, I also carry a 1W, 3W, 5W, and 7W. So no 3 or 4 iron

    all the LW's. wow.

i grew up in Kansas. i cant hit a ball higher than the tree tops. all low "wind-cheaters." i used to hit tee shots that skim the front of the tee box before taking off (the only way i learned of this was to watch the dew marks in the mornings). goofy things to watch, and you better not be about 150 yards in front of me when i hit that thing...you may not get back to the clubhouse...lol.

LW's have absolutely no use in my bag. i used to hit a 45 yard sand skully that would stop right where i wanted it to. now it just goes over the green and hits the cart path and goes under a deck.

however, put me in a 30 mph wind, and while everyone else thinks, "today is going to be tough," i think, "today is moving day for chopper."

anyone have any "trick shots" like the sand skully or the "tee box whizzard?"

Basically if you want to play on any mini tour or nationwide tour you need to be around a +4 and play like it in tournaments. Tiger is apparently around a +8.

ya, ppl underestimate how tough that truly is to do, especially when the guys on mini-tours (I was one of em for about 4 tournies) are playing to put food on the table (actually, not figuratively).

i figured the minis for a plus 5, so i guess i am pretty close for someone pulling the guess from my bum.

but, most people truly dont understand the law of diminishing returns in any sport at the highest levels. you have to work so friggin hard to make the most minor of improvements because you are already so damned close to perfect already.

they say the difference between a AAA pitcher/hitter and one in the MLB is mostly mental. how you recover from mistakes and what not. i tend to agree somewhat.

golf, definitely. they all have the shots. its how they handle the pressure that gives the big boys that extra stroke or two per day. not even.

look at the difference in scoring avg. on tour. tiger excluded, the difference between a vijay and a guy who cant keep his card for more than a year is usually inside a stroke....certainly two. thats sick. it also is the difference between 100k/yr and 1 MM/yr. one friggin stroke per round and you are set for life. thats not execution, its mental. has to be.

So I decided to grind some real poker today, actually I was making a 5nl vid for my site, but the results are nice. Tack on $150 from coaching and another $50 from 50nl HU and it was a nice day.

like the stock market only reverse...buy high/sell low.

undoubtedly you will go on your heaters and move up (not you specifically). then, variance will put you on a cold deck. you show net losses because you ran off your heaters at lower levels.

    lol.
