Default need help from computer needs: i want a compiler

i want to program some stuff but dont have a compiler at home. this has never been a problem because i could always go up to the school comp lab but i cant do that in the summer. so now im figuring out what my options are.

i would rather not go out and buy one, i wouldnt use it enough to want to spend money. i know bloodshed.net has a free c++ compiler but its been giving me problems. does anyone have any recommendations? i can program in c and java.

i think the borland c++ compilre is either free or theres a fully funcitonal free trial. Its always worked fine for me in the past.

are you still at school/college/uni? They can probably supply you with something under a school licence.

    java is a good start.

c# and visual studio is good too (microsoft gives the express versions out for free)

    VS2k5 or Orcas ftw.

For free though you can't go past the express editions of Visual X (if you are coding for a windows target and don't actually want to use java). They are full featured pretty much (couple of things missing such as optimizer but you can download the commandline tools for free as well and intergrate them) and there is a language to suit pretty much every normal person

Eclipse rocks! If you're happy coding in Java its definately the way to go.

Post up if you need a hand with anything.

You can make serious bank as an analyst if you know something about empirical modeling and are willing to live in NY or London...
