Also, I just read that espn.com has chosen Garnett as defensive player of the year WTF??? Why??? He isn't even the best defender in his conference! Dwight Howard has 362 more defensive rebounds (506 more overall) and 87 more blocks (2 away from doubling Garnett's 89). Garnett doesn't even lead his team in blocks or steals, and he is the best in the league? WTF?

i laughed. i thought it was a joke he got it last year. yeah hes a blocking machine, but his team has the worst defense ive ever seen. for that reason he shouldnt get it.

dude judging purely by stats is so stupid. so what if howard had more rebounds than him? kg is on a really good defensive team, and he is like the anchor of it. at least now we know kg will not be getting mvp, because they never give both awards to teh same player.

i also hate kurt thomas for just dropping to the floor every 3 seconds and getting offensive fouls called on the suns left and right. nba refs are just dumb. do they actually believe it is possible for a 6'-9" 235 lbs. NBA center to be rocketed backwards or thrust to the floor from a standard turnaround jumper or drive through the lane?

it is not "best def. player on the best def. team" award. it's an individual award and should be judged as such. i guess you could say without camby their defense is still like the worst in the league, but it's also hard to argue with camby's numbers.

also i just don't see how it's possible for someone to be def. poy if they don't even lead their own team in blocks or steals.

did it ever occur to you that like, because kg is such a good shot blocker, offenses try to avoid him? hence lowering his numbers. similar thing with bonds in his prime, they just wouldnt pitch to him.

lol that's impossible to measure though, and you can't give awards based on stuff like that.

I'm feeling good about the Pistons this year. Flip didn't overplay the starters down the stretch like he has the previous few seasons so they shouldn't burn out if they reach the conference finals. Also, no one is really talking about them this year which I like.

they are def. in everyone's minds though. pretty much everyone thinks it will be pistons or celtics from the east.

also, about def. poy...look at it like this will. if you took camby's season and put him on the celtics this year he would be def. poy no contest.

Sure there's ways to measure it, just not with blocks and steals.

Howard is really good but not as good as Garnett. if you look at the production of opposing teams' PFs vs Boston, it's lower than any other team in the league. Really I'm surprised anyone disagrees with Garnett winning this award, I expect it to be near unanimous.

I said before the playoffs that Toronto < Atlanta and this game sure hasn't changed my mind.

I thought I had posted in here that I thought Philly would cause some problems, must've been somewhere else.

Anyways, Detroit's not losing this series, although, it's almost a GS vs DAL situation like last year. A young explosive team against a slower, overly confident squad. Chauncy Billups just kept repeating "we've been here before" in his post-game interview. That doesn't really matter at this point, you still need to score the basketball.

Hamilton got hurt about a month ago and he's been a pretty horrible player ever since. He needs to get it together by the time the Pistons face a real team.

This game reminded me of the Warriors-Mavs too, I remember thinking "This is retarded, the Mavs just missed layup after layup, no way they keep playing this bad," but they did.

I got to thinking tonight about all the trades/signings that went down this year. Here are just some of them:

    1. Allen/Garnett/Cassell to Boston
    2. Kidd to DAL
    3. Shaq to PHO
    4. Gasol to LAL
    5. Wallace/Wally to CLE
    6. Bibby to ATL
    7. Bobby Jackson to HOU

Looking at the list (and watching every minute of every game yesterday and today) I have to ask myself: WHERE ARE THE WINNERS?

It hit me when I heard today was Gasol's first playoff win ever. Then I got to thinking, when have KG/Ray Allen been in the finals (or Paul Pierce for that matter). How about Kidd, Mike Bibby, or Bobby Jackson ( PG's who are supposed to lead teams) what have they won lately?

I'm not saying it's going to make an impact, but you have to wonder what's going on here. The stadium is going ape-shit tonight while BOS is beating the piss out of the Hawks. Each player is getting a standing ovation checking out of the game. I mean you're beating the 8 seed by 25 points, I'd hope you could act like you've been there before. But, that's my point I guess, they haven't, and it may only be a matter of time before that's becomes very apparent.

    Me too. High five!

As for the rest of your post, not sure what you expect. Most of those teams DID get better because of the trades they made. Not everyone can win a championship though. That doesn't mean the trade was a mistake if any of those teams goes on to lose a series.

    1) obv good, may result in championship
    2) meh, there strong finish had more to do with Dirk snapping into a "fuck you I'm not losing" mode. Trade won't take them over the top
    3) Very positive so far. If they don't get past the spurs now, they were never getting past the spurs. If they beat the spurs who knows.
    4) As big as #1
    5) Meh. However getting West and Smith made the team better. Still limited ceiling.

    *yawn* not worried at all

Chauncey somehow missed 2 FTs and blew a layup down the stretch which he never does. If he makes those it's probably a close win for the Pistons. I'll get worried if Philly wins 3 games.

spenda why dont you look at the teams those players have been on:

Gasols has always been a total joke
KG's team was really good 1 year, and they got upset by the lakers i think? the rest of the times hes been playing with scrubs
Bibby has a ton of experience deep in the playoffs. yeah hes never won it all or made it to the finals, but the years the kings were really good, the lakers were in boc.
bobby jackson isnt really worth talking about
wallace has won it all, dont think wally ever has though, but he isnt a great player.

kidd is also very experienced, been to the finals twice, and didnt stand a chance. his team wasnt very good and he was playing the lakers and spurs, come on.

Why would the fans react any other way? Before this year weren't the Celtics the 2nd most dissappointing franchise in the league?

The lack of experience in the other trades is close to irrelevant for various reasons. If the Celtics end up playing Detroit or when they make the finals maybe will see some inexperience.

maybe not for like a rookie in his first big game/series, but for the players who have been around a while (on a playoff team or not), i don't think it's as big a deal as most make it out to be. they know how to play basketball, they have been in close games, clutch situations, and rough games before, and they aren't going to be intimidated or play badly just because it's the playoffs.

And you blame it on inexperience? Phoenix is not intimidated or nervous about being in the playoffs (this should be pretty obvious). People/teams have bad performances all the time, and they should be expected to have bad performances in the post-season as well. Just cuz a team does badly in the playoffs doesn't mean it's automatically because of their inexperience.

  43. #193
yea it does, what else do you blame it on?

there's a difference between performance and execution. You can execute properly and still fail, but not executing is inexcusable if you aren't "intimidated or nervous"

Ummm you can blame it on them just being human and messing up like everyone does all season long. People/teams mess up all the time. Teams have bad games. It's to be expected. You really think any time anyone in the playoffs has a bad performance that it's because of their inexperience? If you really do then all I can do is LOL cuz I'm not sure how to even argue back. What about the Pistons blowing their lead against the 76ers? Did that happen because they don't have enough experience?

how much impact do you think having series go

    1-1-1-1-1-1-1 instead of 2-3-2 or 2-2-1-1-1

would have on the outcome of a series. Do you think the team with the worse record would stand more of a chance, or does the opportunity to split one of the first 2 games and then win the series in 6 game outweigh the times teams go down 2-0 and get themselves in a tough hole?

i think 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 would be dumb IMO, just too much time off between games and lots of unnecessary travel for the teams. of course the effect is a lot more pronounced in baseball where it gives teams with a couple very good starting pitchers a huge advantage.

not sure how it would affect teams in basketball tbh.

I guess the only thing that would change would maybe be the lower seed's mentality in game 3 since they are usually down 0-2 by that point.

lol mike brown just told the reporter that the 4th quarter will be tough...what a nice guy.

I love to see this. These guys are professionals, and this is the playoffs. Nobody's feelings will be hurt. If you are up you need to pour it on and make sure they have no chance of coming back. Too many times teams build up big leads, and then piss them away.

Cleveland was playing really awful down the stretch at the end of the regular season. I figured the Cavs had a very slight edge just due to homecourt and what they had done to the Wizards in the playoffs the last two years.

    I definitely didn't see a 30 point blowout coming.

nuggets, rockets, and mavs are the only teams i feel wont do well in a 7 game series. nuggets are more in the middle for me, they just really tilt me because they dont play D.

The game was actually decided by the Rockets free throw shooting, but that call pretty much ended the game.
